Chapter 51 Su Fuyi
Chapter 51 Su Fuyi
The speaker was policewoman Wang Min, but she was dressed in plainclothes and looked like a pretty girl next door.
Zhou Fengchen suddenly realized, "So it was you who released us!"
Wang Min chuckled and said, "You're overthinking it. I don't have that kind of ability. You must be starving. Let's go have breakfast first."
As he spoke, he walked towards a breakfast shop diagonally across the street.
Zhou Fengchen was stunned for a moment, then followed behind, completely bewildered, and quietly explained to Monk Yuanzhi how he met Wang Min.
Monk Yuanzhi said, "Young police officer, if it wasn't her who let us out, then who was it? Your family?"
Zhou Fengchen said dejectedly, "My family doesn't have that kind of power. If they knew I was in jail, they would have come to see me long ago."
They entered the breakfast shop, and Wang Min said she would treat them. Zhou Fengchen and the other person didn't stand on ceremony and each ordered two baskets of steamed buns and a large bowl of tofu pudding.
While eating, Zhou Fengchen asked Wang Min, "Who exactly let us out?"
Wang Min chuckled and countered, "You didn't kill them, did you?"
Monk Yuanzhi glared and blurted out, "Of course not! Why would we bother with something we have no grudge against?"
Wang Min said, "Twenty-one people died at once. This is a huge case, and you are the prime suspects, so we arrested you immediately. But last night, after an overnight investigation, we found that you had nothing to do with it."
Zhou Fengchen and Yuan Zhi both breathed a sigh of relief and said, "So that's how it is. It seems the government is indeed wise."
"But..." Wang Min smiled, "You can thank someone for being able to come out so quickly."
"Who?" Zhou Fengchen asked.
"My cousin!" Wang Min's expression was strange.
Zhou Fengchen and Yuan Zhi exchanged a glance. "What does your cousin do?"
Wang Min said, "My cousin is a college student, she's a senior."
Monk Yuanzhi laughed and said, "What are you talking about? Do college students really have that kind of ability?"
Wang Min said, "Of course. My cousin's father, who is also my uncle, is the second-in-command in the city. My cousin is also a criminal investigation expert who often helps us solve cases. When she heard about your case, she rushed over overnight, and then you were released."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi lost interest. They didn't care who she was, as long as she came out.
Monk Yuanzhi ate a steamed bun and casually said, "Where does your cousin live? Let's bring a few bags of soy milk powder and go thank her."
Zhou Fengchen added, "Let's bring two more bottles of canned fruit, otherwise it'll seem like we're stingy."
Wang Min asked in confusion, "You really don't know my cousin? Her name is Su Fuyi."
Zhou Fengchen and Monk Yuanzhi exchanged puzzled glances and asked, "Su Fuyi? That's a rather difficult name to pronounce; we've never heard of her before."
Wang Min frowned and said, "Never mind then! I'm just wondering, my cousin is very capable but has a strange temper. She rarely cares about ordinary things, and it's usually very difficult for us to get her to help us. But last night, she came to our door on her own and was very proactive."
Monk Yuanzhi said, "Maybe she's just bored and came out to have some fun."
……
After finishing breakfast and parting ways with Wang Min, Zhou Fengchen's face quickly darkened. He said, "The whole thing was orchestrated by that hairy monster Doromo from the Shamanic sect. He even bragged about it to me last night. I might really have to kill someone."
Monk Yuanzhi asked, "I've heard you mention this person several times. What grudge do you hold against him?"
Zhou Fengchen recounted the past grievances between the two, which involved a long-standing feud, so Monk Yuanzhi couldn't speak casually.
The two then went to Chenyuan Martial Arts School. Doromo had not appeared since that night. However, almost every student in the school carried black dog blood and rooster blood with them, which reassured Zhou Fengchen.
Back at the rented room, the two sat together and discussed how to capture Doromo. They discussed it back and forth, but they couldn't come up with a solution. The enemy was in the dark while they were in the light. If he didn't come out, they had nowhere to look for him.
Zhou Fengchen remembered something and asked Monk Yuanzhi, "Could we use that method you used to prick the monster with needles last time?"
Monk Yuanzhi smiled wryly and said, "That's a spell designed for demons. Doromo is a human; how can you use it?"
Zhou Fengchen was depressed.
Monk Yuanzhi said, "Didn't you say he'd give you a month? Maybe he'll come looking for you after a month. We'll see then."
"That's all we can do," Zhou Fengchen nodded.
The two cleaned the large iron basin that was burning money, and then tidied up the room. When they finished, they took out the money and put it all together. They only had 6295 yuan left.
Monk Yuanzhi sighed, "This feeling of sudden wealth and sudden poverty is really hard to bear. After seeing 200,000, seeing this few thousand feels a bit humiliating."
Zhou Fengchen said, "I'm used to being poor anyway, so it doesn't matter. I'll just go to work tomorrow and see if the boss still wants me."
Monk Yuanzhi said, "I'll go out and look for more work. If I find any, can we continue working together?"
"no problem."
……
The next morning, Zhou Fengchen went to the small restaurant with a face full of embarrassment. Unexpectedly, the proprietress did not say anything, but was even more enthusiastic than before, which made Zhou Fengchen feel very embarrassed.
For three or four days in a row, Zhou Fengchen went to get off work and came home every day, exhausted, while Monk Yuanzhi ran around all day but didn't get a single job, and couldn't help but feel a little discouraged.
That afternoon, a man in his forties came into the small restaurant. He didn't order anything, and kept muttering to himself as if he wanted to say something but couldn't. The proprietress found it strange and asked, "Sir, is something the matter?"
The man nodded and said, "I heard you have a very powerful mage in your shop, is that right?"
"A mage?" The proprietress glanced at Zhou Fengchen, who was shelling edamame not far away, and asked, "What do you need a mage for?"
Before the middle-aged man could speak, Zhou Fengchen clapped his hands, walked over, and asked, "Who told you that?"
He was puzzled. He had caught ghosts twice, but he hadn't left any contact information. How did this person find him?
The middle-aged man's eyes lit up, and he said, "I heard it from one of my daughter's friends."
Zhou Fengchen frowned and asked, "Who are your daughter's friends?"
The middle-aged man said, "His name seems to be Wang Min, and he's a policeman."
Zhou Fengchen let out a sound, greeted the landlady, and pulled the middle-aged man out the door.
The two arrived at a sheltered alley. Zhou Fengchen pointed to himself and said, "The sorcerer Wang Min mentioned is me. Don't say anything else yet, I just want to know how much you're willing to pay?"
These past few days, he's been bombarded with information about the benefits of money by the monk Yuanzhi, and he's come to believe that money is truly a wonderful thing.
The middle-aged man paused for a moment, then said, "I don't have much money, but if you can save my life, I'm willing to give up everything I own."
Zhou Fengchen looked him up and down and said, "What, are you trying to kill yourself? You don't look like you're possessed by a vengeful ghost."
The middle-aged man sighed and said, "It's not a vengeful ghost. After it happened, I searched online, and I suspect... it's a ghost official."
A ghost official? Zhou Fengchen broke out in a cold sweat.
