Chapter 473: Ever Growing Death
Chapter 473: Ever Growing Death
"Lilith, sweetheart, should I put another pizza in the oven?" Pam asked, noticing Lilith was down to the final slice of her sixth pizza and still didn’t seem anywhere near full."No, thank you, Miss Pam. I can’t eat any more," Lilith replied, despite the fact that her stomach still felt hollow. She remembered Janice’s instruction: when around mortals, she was to limit herself to only six items per meal—no exceptions. Janice feared that the combined food reserves of both worlds might not be enough to satisfy Lilith’s appetite otherwise.
"But... may I have some more juice?" Lilith added after a moment, thinking to herself, ’Big Sis Janice never said anything about how much I’m allowed to drink.’
"Sure—" Pam began, rising slightly from her chair, but she collapsed back into it before the word fully left her lips. Her eyes rolled shut as consciousness slipped away. One by one, the rest of the family slumped over in the same manner, leaving only their small guest still awake. Lilith’s expression tightened into a small, displeased pout as she released her insect army upon the intruders outside, reducing them to dust within seconds using the corpse oil curse.
Her insect sentry had noticed the lifeless hunks of tin encircling the house long before they acted. Lilith had initially dismissed them, assuming they were additional security staff or perhaps part of the guests. That assumption vanished the moment the gas flooded the rooms and every mortal inside dropped where they sat.
Since being taken in and nurtured by the McSuiles, Lilith’s lessons had included far more than basic etiquette. She had been trained in controlling her curses as well—learning how to restrain her instincts, how to temper her hunger, how to behave with mortals, how not to kill someone over things like they took her candy. The discipline held steady now, even as the invaders dissolved to nothing.
With proper guidance and nourishment, Lilith’s young body began to develop at a remarkably accelerated rate, compensating for the growth she had been deprived of. Her curse core and abilities matured alongside her physical form. As her control improved, Lilith discovered that her innate curse art possessed far greater potential than she had ever realized. Moreover, with Delores’s help, she awakened her latent curse senses.
Her innate curse art had already allowed her senses to perceive both the living and the dead. But with her latent senses now opened, it felt as though she had stepped into an entirely new realm of awareness. Possibilities multiplied around her—limitless, uncharted, and waiting to be shaped. It was as if the boundaries of what she could accomplish with her curse arts had all but vanished.
She soon discovered that she could do far more than merely awaken and command the dead. She could also rouse and manipulate the pure negative energy lingering within corpses—energy that, over time, would naturally give rise to curselings. With enough control, she could use this energy to reshape her curse corpses into hybrid curselings, granting them their own curse cores and unique innate curse abilities.
And that was only the beginning.
Lilith learned that she could fuse her own curse core with the cores of these hybrid curse corpses, borrowing both their realm and their abilities—just as she could fuse with high-tier curse cores to replicate their curse arts and cultivation levels. In doing so, she uncovered a new method to overcome the inherent limitations placed upon those of the Curse Slave path.
Lilith kept her newly gained abilities hidden, choosing not to reveal them to anyone—not yet. She wanted Elinor to be the first to know. Though Janice and the McSuile family’s staff cared for her, tended to her needs, and treated her warmly, Lilith had never forgotten Elinor. She couldn’t forget. On the night she had sought Death itself, it was Elinor who had helped her understand that Death could wait—that there were still things left in this world for her to do.
Sharing her emotions with her curseling partner / her father to stabilize his deteriorating soul succumbing to the madness of a curseling, Lilith always in a state of pseudo-death—and through her fusion with her hybrid curse corpses, Lilith existed in a state of borderline death. Her presence blended into that blurred threshold. Because of this, Kidd’s AI and the cursedroid sensors completely failed to register her as a curse user. She simply did not fit within any classification they were designed to detect. So as a default she was considered as mortal.
Having dealt with the intruders, Lilith checked and found the Landers merely unconscious — alive, if temporarily incapacitated. She took advantage of the lull to root out the attackers completely. Her undead insect legion was already sown throughout the Lander Estate, so she knew the things she had turned to dust almost certainly had allies still hiding inside the grounds. She intended to hunt them down before they could regroup and strike back harder than before.
It was a lesson drilled into her by the cult: mercy was a liability. If anyone dared harm her, her friends, or her family, she would not hesitate — she would kill them without fail.
At her command, the undead insect legion swarmed out across the estate, tracking down every unknown curse entity that had infiltrated the Lander grounds under the cover of night. One by one, they cornered and overwhelmed the intruders—until they encountered something that pushed back.
Among the attackers was a curse entity far stronger than the rest. Its form surged, expanding grotesquely in size, and flames erupted from its body in violent bursts. Fire swept across the ground in every direction, incinerating her undead insects to ash before they could so much as close the distance.
Seeing her forces burn away, Lilith knew this was no longer something she could handle from afar. So, without hesitation, she stepped forward to enter the battlefield herself.
By now, Lilith and Kidd’s actions had already alerted everyone in the Lander Estate — including Dee3, who was hiding in her dungeon alongside the Lander siblings from her uninvited guests.
