Chapter 470: Caught Red Handed
Chapter 470: Caught Red Handed
Leaving my uncle’s house, I rushed to Lansky Manor. Stepping into Dee3’s dungeon, I immediately searched for Mandy only to find Lyra and Dee3 talking surrounded by the animals. So, nearing them, I gave my elder sister a chance to come clean, asking, "Lyra, do you want to tell me something? Did you really pull this off all alone on short notice?""No, these cuties helped," Lyra said, pointing at the animals. As a career liar, it wasn’t surprising that she lied without even batting an eye, but the animals and Dee3 were another case.
Not wanting to play this charade with Lyra and knowing how it will end, I skipped it and jumped the gun blaming her, "Lyra, didn’t I ask you not to reveal anything about ’World of Curses’ to anyone, especially to our family? What were you thinking?"
"I have no idea what you are talking about," Lyra said, feigning ignorance when the expressions on Dee3 and the animals’ faces told another story. Not wanting to drag them into my family drama, especially with the tragic loss they suffered. I continued with Lyra, "How could you drag Mandy into this world? Didn’t I tell you that no one in our family other than the two of us has an aptitude for curse energy? What were you thinking? Unless you are trying to get rid of her. I know you guys don’t get along, but to scheme to kill her using the ’World of Curses,’ now that’s just plain crazy."
"What the fuck? Why would you even think that I’m scheming to kill that brat? Just to be clear, I am not," Lyra exclaimed in shock, astonished that her brother thought so little of her.
"Why? Then why did you introduce her to this world?" I asked, eyeing the expressions and eyes of Lyra, Dee3, and the animals, trying to figure out where they were hiding Mandy.
"I didn’t. What would make you think that? But if I had, then I would say maybe she tricked me into revealing the ’World of Curses’ to her when we were stuck in Janice’s basement," Lyra hypothetically confessed. But it was enough, soon an angry Mandy’s voice sounded, "You had one job — deny, deny, deny! And you failed at that. Are you even good for anything, you dumbass?"
Following the sound, I found a huge tortoise surfacing from the walls of the dungeon. Then, the top of its shell opened like the hatch of a submarine, and Mandy climbed out of it. Despite the bizarre sight before me, I couldn’t help but turn to look at Dee3 with an impressed look. She turned a tortoise into a land submarine using her curse tech. At that moment, all I could think about was, ’How many people can that tortoise’s shell hold at a time? And how can I get one?’
"If I’m a dumbass, then what does that make you? Because of your curiosity, you now know something that will force you to live the rest of your life in fear. Don’t come crying to me when you can’t sleep at night wondering what’s crawling under your bed or in your closet," Lyra snapped back, accepting her ignorance as a form of natural protection.
"Ugh, there’s no point in arguing with you. You make me so mad!" Mandy yelled, climbing out of the tortoise’s shell and leaning on it, exhausted from frustration.
"I make you mad, you make me mad?" Lyra shouted back, while the animals began to huddle behind Dee3, who appeared to be too calm seeing two of her friends going at it.
Noticing this, I immediately guessed what these two were up to. They believed that, seeing them at each other’s throats, I would come to mediate between them, forgetting the sheer stupidity they managed to pull off and live to tell me about it.
"Enough, you two. I am onto your little tricks. I know what you guys are doing. And guess what? I am not even mad. It was my fault for trusting your dumbasses to do as you were told and not to poke around," I said sarcastically, blaming both of them. Lyra for being too dumb and Mandy for being too curious when I strictly warned her not to pry.
"Mandy, I thought we had a deal? What happened?" I asked Mandy in disappointment.
"What happened? I got jealous feeling left out," Mandy spoke the truth without chickening out. Knowing that saying anything else will spiral this into a bigger fight. She did not want to fight because tonight was about Mr. Birdie and celebrating his bravery. She didn’t want to ruin it with their family drama.
"Really? I’m sorry we made you feel that way," Lyra apologized out of nowhere, hugging Mandy, only for the latter to roll her eyes and remark, "Get off me, you bigfoot."
"In the spirit of being honest, I would like to share that you calling me names based on my size is not funny, it makes me mad. It’s not my fault that you are not curvy and tall like me and are underdeveloped," Lyra shared, tightening her hug.
"Lyra, I can’t breathe. Ace, help!" Mandy called out for help, but seeing her nephew ignore her, she stretched her hands around Lyra and towards the animals, calling out, "Guys, get this bigfoot off me."
However, the animals stared at her with disdain for body shaming Lyra, even though she specifically shared that it bothered her. Being ignored by the animals, fun Mandy suddenly panicked, pleading, "Guys, I am not kidding this time. She is really suffocating me."
Not only did no one come to her help, but Dee3 began to laugh at the aunt and niece pair, "Hahaha. You guys are funny."
"Nope, she is really choking her," I said, noticing the change in Mandy’s breath and hurried over to separate them.
"Lyra, let go of her or you will break her for real," I said, as I used my enhanced strength to get my big sister off my little aunt.
"Cough! Cough!" Mandy coughed, finally being freed from Lyra’s hug.
"Sorry, I’m still new to this strength, so I’m having a little trouble controlling it," Lyra apologized without any sincerity.
Mandy wasn’t having it. "Stop lying," she accused. "I know you did it on purpose, you fatass."
