Chapter 50 Return to the Upper City, Nobles
The atmosphere inside the clinic in Panyan Town was completely different from before.
Natasha, Seele, Star, March 7, Danheng, and others sat together, with a simple but crucial map of the lower city and a list of needs spread out on the table.
Bronya stood before the crowd, her brows still showing signs of fatigue from handling numerous tasks, but her eyes were brighter and more determined than ever before.
She had just chaired a preliminary coordination meeting regarding the reconstruction of the downtown area.
"Thank you all for your honesty and hard work." Bronya's voice was clear and steady as her gaze swept over Natasha and Seele before finally settling on Swallow.
"Ms. Natasha, Seele, thank you for your valuable suggestions and list of needs on behalf of Earthfire. Mr. Schwarz, your commitment to technical support and the deployment of mechanical legions will be key to the restoration of production in the Lower City."
"I will immediately take this preliminary reconstruction framework and material requirements back to Shangcheng District as the basis for subsequent policy formulation and resource allocation."
She picked up the neatly arranged documents on the table and carefully put them away.
"The Lower City and the Upper City have been separated for too long, and the difficulties they have caused are far beyond my imagination. But please believe me, the rift has been removed, and the passage will surely reopen. This is my promise to all the citizens of Belloberg."
Bronya's tone was resolute: "The Upper City will allocate the first batch of emergency supplies as soon as possible to alleviate the immediate crisis. The subsequent reconstruction work will require the joint efforts of the Upper and Lower City, and Mr. Schwarz's involvement will be a tremendous help."
"I will discuss the specific details of the cooperation, resource allocation, and the timetable for opening the channels with you as soon as possible after the situation in the Upper City is stabilized."
Natasha smiled and nodded, her eyes filled with trust: "Lady Bronya, we trust you. The Lower City will do its best to cooperate and fulfill our responsibilities."
Seele crossed her arms, her expression still cool, but her tone softened considerably: "Hmph, don't just talk the talk, we'll see what you do. Earthfire won't hesitate to help if needed."
Schwarzlo's mechanical voice rang out smoothly: "Agreement: Cooperation. Data recorded. Awaiting further instructions."
"Dad!" Xing suddenly rushed over dramatically, hugging Chen Feng's arm and pretending to cry, "Look, Bronya is leaving!"
There are no more monsters to fight in the lower city! Our train crew felt so uninvolved on this exploration trip! It felt like we just came to make up the numbers!
Chen Feng, both amused and exasperated, pulled her off his arm and lightly tapped her on the head: "Alright, alright, stop with the act."
"Low engagement? That's perfect. The reconstruction of the lower city needs manpower. I see that you guys are full of energy. Staying here to help with mining and road construction is just right for you to experience life. I guarantee you'll be incredibly engaged."
"Huh?!" Xing and March 7th widened their eyes at the same time.
Dan Heng nodded slightly: "We will stay in Panyan Town for a few more days to see if there is anything we can do to help." His gaze swept over Xing and March 7, with a hint of helpless smile.
"Okay, okay, it's good to help others—" Xing pouted, accepting the "arrangement."
Chen Feng looked at Bronya: "Yaya, the preliminary arrangements here are done. Jepard probably can't hold out in the upper city for much longer by himself, it's time to go back."
Bronya took a deep breath, nodded, and looked at the people in the lower city again: "Well then, everyone, I'll leave the reconstruction of Rocksteady to you. I'll return with support from the upper city as soon as possible. Let's keep in touch."
She took one last, deep look at the land that had given her life, her eyes filled with complex emotions yet unwavering resolve. Then, she turned to Sambo: "Sambo, please take us back to the upper city."
"Alright! Lady Bronya, Mr. Chen Feng, this way please! I guarantee it's safe and fast!" Sambo immediately led the way with a big smile.
Upon returning to the Upper City, Bronya hurriedly went back to the High Guardian's Hall, preparing to begin the subsequent reconstruction work in a large-scale manner, but the prerequisite was to first resolve the problem of the nobles in Beloborg.
Bronya's hasty appointment as acting president and Cocolia's absence sparked much discussion among the nobles. Some said that Bronya had forced Cocolia to abdicate and that Cocolia was now under house arrest.
Some say that the so-called resolution of the Rift is a lie by Bronya. Who knows if the Rift has truly disappeared? What if it makes a comeback?
-
The nobles didn't care about what would happen to Belloborg afterward; all they knew was that the existence of the Rift was the only way for them to make money. After all, war was the best way to make money. What if they couldn't make money after Bronya's statement was confirmed?
Bronya stepped into the somewhat empty office of the High Guardian, looking travel-worn.
Jepard was already waiting there, the Silvermane Iron Guard officer's face showing unusual worry.
"Lady Bronya," Jepard gave a standard military salute, his voice low and serious, "while you were away, the reactions of the city's nobles were more intense than expected."
Bronya walked behind her desk, but didn't sit down immediately. She just rubbed her temples wearily. "Tell me more, Jepard."
Jepard reported the matter of the city's nobles to Bronya, and then fell silent, as he dared not interfere in such matters.
Bronya clenched her fist quietly at her side, her knuckles turning slightly white.
"Do you need me to take action?" Chen Feng's tone grew colder. He had no good feelings towards these nobles. As someone who grew up under the red flag, he despised these creatures that leeched off the country.
Bronya felt a warmth in her heart upon hearing this. She had no doubt that Chen Feng had the ability, but after thinking for a moment, she shook her head: "Sir, you have already done too much for Belloberg."
"If I can't even handle things like internal questioning, uniting people, and establishing authority on my own, and I need you to personally step in and intimidate them, then..."
She paused, her tone becoming deeper and more forceful: "Then what right do I have to sit in this position? What face do I have to face my compatriots in the lower city who have endured centuries of suffering and are now finally seeing hope?"
The office was completely silent.
Jepard looked at the young acting High Protector before him, his eyes filled with surprise and a renewed sense of respect.
He seemed to see a seedling, having weathered a storm, drawing strength at an astonishing speed, breaking through the soil, and striving to stretch towards the sky.
Chen Feng stared at Bronya for a few seconds, his nonchalant smile gradually fading and finally turning into a smile full of deep approval and satisfaction.
"Okay." Chen Feng's voice returned to its usual relaxed tone, but the certainty in it was self-evident.
