Chapter 127 Gray Realm Walker
Chapter 127 Gray Realm Walker
The gray mist that filled the hall gradually converged, compressed, and shaped itself towards an empty seat.
The gray mist outlined a human figure, gradually becoming clearer, and finally coalescing into a figure sitting upright in a chair.
A figure shrouded in thick gray fog. The details of the figure were perfectly obscured by the fog, but the basic posture and sitting position were still vaguely discernible.
Green recognized her at a glance; that slightly reserved posture and the slightly forward-leaning shoulders belonged to the fortune teller Leah he had just met!
Indeed, reciting the name of Mr. Fool was like knocking on the gates of Source Castle.
Leah Horn's consciousness was still in her little house filled with the scent of herbs. The next second, her vision blurred, and when she "felt" herself again, the surrounding environment was no longer the room she was familiar with.
Before me stretched an infinitely high dome, beneath me an ancient, mottled bronze bench, and all around me, a silent gray mist flowed slowly.
"Where is this?" Her voice trembled slightly.
Just as Leah's figure was taking shape and she looked around in surprise and uncertainty, Green keenly noticed that the gray mist figure belonging to Mr. "Fool," who had been sitting motionless at the head of the long table, was slowly and silently dissipating like a sandcastle blown away by the wind.
The thick gray fog quickly dissipated and blended into the surrounding environment. In just a few breaths, the seat that symbolized the supreme being was empty.
Green's heart skipped a beat.
What does this mean? Has Mr. Fool left?
Or was it because the number of participants in the "meeting" increased, and the projector used for the "fixed scene" was taken back? Or was it a tacit approval, or even a test?
The gray mist on the surface of the mirror swirled silently, as if observing quietly.
An idea uncontrollably entered Green's mind. The main seat was vacant. And here, a "facilitator" was needed.
Could it be that Mr. Fool's intention is for me to temporarily take over and maintain order and formality in this "meeting"?
The thought made his palms sweat slightly.
To play the role of a god? Even just above this gray fog, facing an acquaintance? The risks and sense of transgression involved almost made him want to back down.
Arodes called Mr. Fool his master. The Fool slept, his form vanished, but Arodes remained.
If my actions are inappropriate, Arodes will surely stop me. Although it is still terrible, it should represent the will of Mr. Fool to some extent.
His gaze swept over the still somewhat bewildered Lia, over the silent yet seemingly expectant Arodes, and finally settled on the empty bronze high-backed chair that symbolized power and responsibility.
Green slowly walked towards the empty head seat.
He could feel Leah's gaze following him, filled with astonishment and confusion. Arodes' mirror slightly adjusted its angle, aiming it at him.
Walking to the high-backed chair, Green paused for a second before slowly sitting down.
Green mimicked the pose of "Mr. Fool," interlacing his fingers and gently placing them on the smooth, cool bronze tabletop.
He straightened his back and said slowly and in a deep voice, "Welcome to Above the Gray Fog."
The sound rang out, not loud, yet strangely echoing through the space.
Lia's gray mist figure visibly trembled, as if she wanted to stand up or say something, but was stunned by this sudden, familiar yet unfamiliar opening.
"A silent witness on the throne of gray fog, a person who resonates with the echoes of history, a traveler walking on the boundary between reality and secrecy."
"You may call me—the Walker of the Gray Realm."
Green chose this name.
It hints at a connection to Source Castle and Mr. Fool, but without being overly ostentatious, retaining a sense of explorer and traveler rather than ruler.
"You came here with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to explore, and you received a response. This is a place for exchanging information and exploring the hidden, following the ancient principles of equivalence and honesty."
He paused, then slightly shifted his gaze to the flamboyant silver mirror.
"This is Mr. Arrodes, the maintainer of the rules and the recorder of the questions and answers here."
A ripple immediately appeared on Arodes' mirror. "Greetings, wise Graywalker! And welcome, new guest! I am the all-knowing—well, partially all-knowing Arodes! Here, asking questions comes at a price, and answers must be honest, or else there will be a small, morally beneficial assistance!"
Leah's scalp tingled at the sight before her.
Above the gray fog — the dust of history — the gray line — the mirror of questions and answers — all of this far exceeds her wildest mystical imagination, yet it subtly coincides with her research on "fools" and "historical fault lines".
"Grey Realm—Mr. Walker," she finally spoke, but her voice was still tense, "May I ask why I was summoned here? And—you, you know me?"
"You have recited the ancient name and knocked on the gates of God's kingdom."
Leah was taken aback; Green's words seemed to make her years of hard work finally bear fruit.
"My prayers—were heard?" she murmured to herself, but at that moment, Leah was overwhelmed with ecstasy.
She sat up abruptly, her heart pounding.
Is this "Grey Realm Walker"—an incarnation of the "Fool"? A messenger? Or another hidden being connected to the "Fool"? Is it because his long research and prayers have finally been recognized, or—
Is it related to that dangerous problem that Mr. Green brought up?
Countless questions swirled in her mind.
Suppressing her excitement, Leah said respectfully, "I admire your response, great Gray Realm Traveler. It is my greatest honor to set foot here."
Years of studying the occult have taught her that when facing a high-ranking being, maintaining a clear mind is more important than fanatical worship.
Green nodded slightly, the movement minimal.
Did I overdo it? I wonder what Leah will think if she knew it was me—
But it feels good.
Green kept his arms crossed and turned to look at Arrodes.
The gray mist on the mirror slowly swirled, as if an eye was watching him with great interest.
"Wise Gray Realm Walker," the mist has temporarily obscured her consciousness, so you can ask your questions with peace of mind. The gray mist on the mirror outlined a playful gesture that seemed to say, "Please begin your performance."
Green glanced at Leah and saw her sitting there quietly, her figure shrouded in gray mist, motionless, like a silent sculpture.
"Arods is quite considerate; at least he won't be exposed so quickly," Green breathed a sigh of relief.
"I want to know Lillian's true path and sequence."
Now that Arodes has already adopted a "cooperative" stance, there's no need for him to beat around the bush any longer.
"Ah! You're calling her by her name directly! It seems you know her quite well." Well, a wise traveler indeed! But honesty is a virtue, and directness is efficiency. I like it!
"She is an extraordinary being who walks the 'wrong' path; her sequence is—"
Arrodes's words came to an abrupt end.
After a moment, it whispered, "I can't see her sequence. It seems something is holding the answer."
It was stolen.
