Chapter 61 Pales: !!!
Chapter 61 Pales: !!!
"Please come in, both of you. Please wait here for a moment. I'll go find the captain right away. I remember he's been waiting for you too." Rosanne immediately ran into the house. A moment later, she reappeared with another person by her side.
He was a man with a slightly high hairline, who looked very composed. He was wearing a black trench coat and had a gold watch chain near the buttons on his chest.
"Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am Dunn, the head of the Tingen Night Watchmen's branch..." As Dunn spoke, he drew a red moon on his chest with his hand, a gesture commonly used by believers to pray to the night.
"Hello, Captain Dunn, I'm Rosen Nicholas, and this is Klein," Rosen replied enthusiastically, casually drawing a red moon on his chest and even saying in a mocking tone, "Praise beauties, goddess!"
Is this red-gloved gentleman also named Klein?
Dunn was visibly taken aback when he heard the name. Almost subconsciously, he thought of Mr. Moretti, whom he had visited a few days earlier while investigating the Ince incident. Mr. Moretti was unfortunate enough to be caught up in the incident but was fortunate enough to be rescued by the Church of Fools. He couldn't help but think it was a coincidence, but he didn't think too much about it. After all, it's quite normal to have the same name these days.
Klein glanced at him helplessly, thought for a moment, then drew a red moon on his chest as well, and continued, "Where is Ince Zangwill?"
"After I locked him up in Charness Gate, we kept him in a coma for security reasons, and he hasn't woken up yet." Dunn explained the details to the two men as he led them inside, including the whistleblower letter on Ince's body and the information they had gathered in the past few days based on the letter's contents.
"...In addition, we also investigated Megas. Although this innocent lady still has some traces of having conceived the offspring of an evil god, fortunately, probably because of something done by the Church of the Fools, she is now in very good health."
Dunn felt somewhat relieved as he said this, because if the offspring of the evil god had truly descended, it would have been a huge disaster for Tingen.
Not to mention, the contents of the whistleblower letter reveal that the offspring of the evil god was only part of Ince's conspiracy. He may have had other means, but they were likely stopped before he could use them.
"...But unfortunately, 008 is still missing." Dunn seemed to remember something and added, then hesitated before continuing:
"But I think it might not have been taken by the Fool's Church; there might be an unknown third party involved in this matter."
"Your guess makes a lot of sense. We'll try to investigate in that direction." Rosen nodded dismissively, pretending he knew nothing.
Klein wasn't as natural as him. Mr. Fool's eyes flickered for a moment before he said, "Although this matter seems to be over for now, we still can't let our guard down. There may still be risks lurking in the shadows that we don't know about."
"I understand. During this time, I will keep everyone on high alert and fully cooperate with the Red Gloves' operation," Dunn nodded solemnly.
The group then arrived at the guardhouse in front of Chanis, where Ince was being held. On duty there was a young man with a somewhat unruly appearance, handsome features, and the air of a poet. He was idly reading a book of poems when he noticed footsteps and looked up at the newcomers.
Clearly, this is Leonard Mitchell, the future star of the Tarot Club, and also the host of the thief angel Pales.
Originally, Captain Dunn was supposed to be on duty in front of Charness's gate today, but due to the events of this morning, in order to contact the Red Gloves' investigation team in time, Dunn temporarily switched shifts with Leonard, which is why Leonard is here now, bored and reading poetry.
"Captain!" Leonard immediately perked up. He greeted his captain first, then his gaze fell on the two strangers. Before he could say anything, he saw one of the red-gloved men slowly take out a monocle from his pocket and put it on.
Leonard paused for a moment, not really thinking much about it, but then he heard a voice suddenly rise in volume beside him:
"Amon?!!"
What, Amon? Who?
Leonard was somewhat confused and bewildered, but he could sense the underlying fear in the voices around him, which made him tense as well. After a moment's thought, he asked, "Captain, are these the Red Gloves sent from headquarters?"
"Yes, this is Mr. Klein, and this is Mr. Rosen Nicholas." Dunn, naturally unaware of what had happened, smiled and introduced them to Leonard, then in turn introduced Leonard to Rosen and Nicholas.
"Wait, Rosen Nicholas, I think I've heard that name before... Is it Him?"
Before Leonard could even greet the two people opposite him, he heard Palez's surprised and uncertain voice again, which made him stop speaking instantly.
What is meant by...He?
Leonard couldn't help but swallow hard. "He" was not a title that could be used casually. Usually, only angels and gods could use "He" as a title.
Is this Mr. Rosen Nicholas an angel? But isn't he Red Glove sent from headquarters?
Leonard was filled with questions. After Rosen and the other man went with the captain to interrogate Ince Zangwell, Leonard lowered his voice and said, "Old man, are you mistaken? How could he be an angel? He was sent by headquarters."
"Strictly speaking, He wasn't wrong. I am indeed an angel, but I'm currently experiencing life in the Church of the Night."
A soft, chuckling voice rang in his ear, sending chills down Leonard's spine. He looked to the side in surprise and saw Rosen, who had just gone with the captain to interrogate Ince-Sponsored Will, sitting there with the book of poems he used to memorize.
"Author Russell, author Russell, and author Russell, tsk, Russell really doesn't leave any way for his fellow countrymen to survive, at least leave a few poems!" Rosen commented with a smile. The person sitting here at this moment is, of course, one of his clones.
After all, a thief's specialty is creating clones.
"...You, Your Highness, what do you want to do?" Leonard opened his mouth, hesitated for a few seconds, and then spoke, half believing Rosen's words.
After all, Rosen was sent by headquarters, and Leonard had a high level of trust in the headquarters of the Church of the Night.
"I'm just here to experience life and, incidentally, to say hello to my brother's... nemesis." Rosen glanced at him, put down the poetry book in his hand, and smiled, saying, "Although this is our first meeting, I've heard a lot about you, Mr. Palez Zoroaster."
