Chapter 53 First Exploration of the Fishway
Chapter 53 First Exploration of the Fishway
The fish passage was very long, and Zhou Miao, whose breathing tube was limited in length, was unable to explore the situation at both ends of the fish passage.
He had been thinking about a question: the beach said that the big fish would appear during high tide, so if he followed the fish trail, could he find the big fish's habitat?
If you don't catch anything during a high tide, you can go directly to the habitat of a large fish and catch it yourself.
Unfortunately, he could only sigh in vain before he could even refill the oxygen cylinder.
Setting aside his idea of exploring the length of the fishway, Zhou Miao turned his attention to carefully observing the different types of fish.
However, the first fish that caught his eye were none other than those with little economic value.
However, he couldn't see the underwater conditions at his current depth, so he had to continue diving downwards.
When he reached a depth of about 20 meters, a sudden tightness in his chest made him stop immediately.
Zhou Miao frowned, biting her breathing tube, and slowly inhaled and exhaled, gradually realizing that breathing at this depth was significantly more difficult than before.
Although he didn't feel any physical discomfort, it instantly triggered an alarm in his mind.
Without the slightest hesitation, he decisively abandoned his plan to continue diving and slowly swam towards the surface.
"call..."
Once on the water, Zhou Miao threw the breathing tube onto the boat.
This type of diving, which relies on one's own breathing, is indeed not suitable for going too deep, as water pressure has a significant impact on the lungs.
No wonder professional divers and beachcombers rely on oxygen pumps to provide compressed air; it seems that today's exploration of fish passages can only end here.
In order not to leave empty-handed, Zhou Miao steered his boat towards the nearby reef area, intending to go diving and collect seafood there.
The underwater world in the reef area is not as colorful as that in the waterway, but there are many different kinds of snails.
As long as they were people he knew, and the size and individual were suitable, Zhou Miao accepted them all.
I was lucky enough to find some large oysters and scallops, and the most exciting thing was that I caught three lobsters.
They're not very big, each weighing only six or seven ounces.
Although Zhou Miao's harvest seemed decent, apart from the lobsters, the other seafood wouldn't fetch much money in the market.
However, if they get the food to Luo Hao, they can have a sumptuous dinner.
Zhou Miao had gotten somewhat used to eating there.
Secondly, he felt that Luo Hao's cooking skills were quite good, at least much better than his own, and he felt that Luo Hao was at the level of a professional chef.
He especially enjoyed the crab stew last night.
He might not be good enough to be the head chef of a big hotel, but he's no worse than some popular street food stall chefs.
It's no wonder that Luo Hao provides customers with a menu; the fact that his food is delicious is an advantage that most of the surrounding fish farms don't have.
Most fish farms provide a kitchen so customers can cook for themselves.
While this is a selling point, what if you encounter customers who don't want to do it themselves?
We can only use the boat to help pick up takeout!
Unless the boss is as good at cooking as Luo Hao, or invests a lot of money to hire a chef directly.
With a considerable amount of cargo already, Zhou Miao had no desire to continue fishing, so he packed up and headed back, arriving at Luo Hao's fishing raft not long after.
At this moment, Lu Xiaoxiao was busy with her laptop, looking focused and absorbed.
Zhou Miao was very satisfied with this. It seemed that her promises hadn't been in vain. Just the promise of investment had made her even more interested.
However, he wasn't the kind of unscrupulous boss who would just make empty promises; he would actually give her the share, it just depended on how much money she would put up.
If you want a horse to run, you have to feed it grass.
As any employee knows, everyone likes to slack off when the boss isn't around. But as long as it's their own company, they're willing to work 24/7.
Not far away, Luo Qianqian was serving customers.
Today's customers are likely families on vacation, all with children, so Luo Qianqian needs to be extra careful to look after them.
Although the fish rafts are surrounded by railings, children are mischievous and can easily cause trouble if you're not careful.
After nodding to Luo Qianqian who was looking at him, Zhou Miao carried the tank containing conch and lobster towards the kitchen.
The kitchen was filled with the aroma of cooking, and Luo Hao was seen flipping a spatula up and down, stirring a plate of fried rice.
"Are people still ordering food at this hour?" Zhou Miao asked, quite surprised, as he put down the water tank.
Luo Hao glanced out the window to make sure the customers were far enough away before lowering his voice to explain, "The little brats didn't eat properly at lunch, so now they're hungry and making a fuss about wanting food."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on the water tank at Zhou Miao's feet.
"Hey! Why did you bring so much stuff again? Aren't you going to sell it for money?"
Zhou Miao grinned: "How much are these miscellaneous conches of different sizes worth? The lobsters aren't very big either, they won't sell for much."
"It's better to bring it over so you can show off your skills. At least you can have a nice meal tonight. Isn't that more worthwhile than selling those measly few dollars?"
"Tsk tsk, your abacus beads are almost hitting my face!" Luo Hao had already finished cooking the rice and smiled as he pointed at him.
Quickly plate the fried rice and serve it to the guests.
After a short while, he returned to the kitchen, bent down and rummaged through the contents of the water tank, saying as he pondered, "Let's make some spicy stir-fried conch for dinner! As for the oysters, scallops, and baby lobsters, we'll just make garlic-roasted ones and put them in the oven to save time."
"Okay! You arrange it, I'll just be responsible for eating." Zhou Miao answered crisply and without any objection.
Luo Hao shook his head, resignedly moved the water tank to the sink, picked up a brush, and began to scrub the sea snails diligently.
These seafood items must first be thoroughly cleaned and then soaked in clean water to allow them to expel the mud and sand from their bellies.
Adding a little salt and mustard will make them spit out quickly and thoroughly.
"You've been tinkering with this all afternoon?" Luo Hao asked while washing.
"I mainly wanted to dive down and find some valuable stuff; you've seen what I've gotten."
Zhou Miao leaned against the door frame and started chatting.
"I did find a fish passage, with schools of small fish. Unfortunately, I can't dive in the deeper parts today, so I plan to fill my oxygen tank tomorrow before going down to explore."
"Holy crap, a fish path?" Luo Hao paused, looking up in surprise. "You found such a great fishing spot and aren't you going fishing?"
"They're all small fry. I can't find my target school, so it's a waste of time." Zhou Miao spread his hands. "Besides, I didn't bring a fishing rod, so I can't fish!"
"You don't understand. Where there are fish passages, there are bound to be big fish! It's unrealistic to expect giants weighing tens or hundreds of kilograms in nearshore waters, but normally, fish weighing several kilograms are definitely not uncommon!"
"If there are no customers tomorrow, you absolutely have to take me!" Luo Hao said with a hint of excitement, as if he could already see the thousands or even tens of thousands of yuan he used to earn every day when he was setting up crab traps.
That feeling was absolutely amazing!
Unfortunately, crab resources are limited, and the good times didn't last long.
"Besides, tomorrow is high tide, so the fish will be biting well. Even if it doesn't bring in as much as when we were setting crab traps, with a bit of luck, making a thousand or two shouldn't be a problem!"
"No problem, come along if you're free," Zhou Miao readily agreed.
His straightforwardness stemmed from his clear understanding that the resources in the fishpond were entirely different from those in the crab colony.
Crab populations are a relatively fixed group resource, and they will be depleted after a few harvests.
The fish resources in the fishway are in constant flux.
Apart from a few fish that live there permanently, most of them are just passing by.
No matter how many fish they catch, new schools of fish will follow this fishway to other places in a few days.
Unless there is a significant decrease in resources across the entire sea area, the resources along the fish passage will not change much.
Of course, abundant resources are one thing, but how many fish you can catch depends on factors such as tides, time of day, and weather.
Zhou Miao knew that Yudao was a very good fishing spot, but it was too close to the shore, so he was unsure how many fish of economic value there were.
But since Luo Hao is so excited, it must be a good sign.
So, just after six o'clock the next morning, the four of them were already fully prepared and headed to the fish passage.
Sitting on the boat piloted by Luo Hao, Zhou Miao watched him intently navigating and couldn't help but recall his words from yesterday. He teased, "Hao, you said yesterday you'd come fishing if there weren't any customers. And today, not a single customer! Was your mouth blessed?"
Luo Hao sighed upon hearing this, a hint of helplessness in his voice: "Don't even mention it. Right now, the business at the fish rafts relies entirely on us owners promoting it online. It's not a holiday, so where are we going to get so many customers!"
He was indeed very excited when he learned yesterday afternoon that Zhou Miao had discovered the fish passage, but what he hoped for even more was to be able to steadily receive several groups of customers every day.
A stable customer base brings stable income, which is much more reliable than fishing at sea.
But business was slow, and there was nothing he could do.
"Don't worry, it'll be October 1st in just over twenty days. There will definitely be so many people during the National Day holiday that you won't be able to keep up."
"If we're not busy during the National Day holiday, then we're really doomed. There's no need for Nanzhen to continue with cultural and tourism projects; we might as well just go back to aquaculture."
