Chapter 45 He is a demon!
Chapter 45 He is a demon!
Outside Arkham State Mental Hospital.
"That Timothy, he went crazy after you interrogated him last time, so you sent him straight here."
"It's me!" said Leo, the deputy head of the homicide squad, with a round face and a thick beard, as he spoke, a thin cigarette dangling from his lips.
Lu Yiming immediately moved two steps to the side, subtly creating distance between them.
Ever since he caught this guy pinning another man against the wall and kissing him in the stairwell, he's felt a physical aversion to Leo.
Mia absolutely refused to go with him, so the director had no choice but to send Leo instead.
"How can the spirit of these cult members be so fragile?"
No wonder the bureau chief instructed us to "take it easy," apparently because he was afraid of killing someone.
He glanced at Leo out of the corner of his eye.
Wasn't this guy planted in the homicide squad by the mayor? The mayor has fallen from power, how come he's completely unharmed?
Leo is the deputy head of the homicide squad, and if Marcus is promoted to director, he is the most likely candidate for the position.
It seems he's still a formidable rival.
"You don't really think you can get anything out of a lunatic, do you?" Leo glanced at Lu Yiming.
"There aren't that many mentally ill people; they're all faking it to get away with their crimes."
Lu Yiming was too lazy to argue with him. This was the only clue he had right now, so he decided to give it a shot.
……
Inside the mental hospital
Timothy had just finished a round of treatment and was slumped in his wheelchair, his eyes unfocused.
The doctor in charge of him, a middle-aged man, was comforting him:
"That's right, how could anyone eat people? Those are all your hallucinations, no one wants to eat you."
Timothy's mental defenses crumbled after Lu Yiming interrogated him using those perverse methods.
Every night I dream of Lu Yiming dissecting me with a knife.
"Yes...you're right! It's all an illusion! That demon is an illusion!" Timothy repeated nervously.
The doctor, pushing a wheelchair, had just turned out of the corridor when he bumped into two visitors.
Timothy's previously blank gaze suddenly narrowed when he saw Lu Yiming.
"demon……"
He pointed at Lu Yiming, then turned to look at the doctor, his legs trembling uncontrollably.
That terrifying memory resurfaced in my mind—
"This knife is for dissecting your left leg. Judging by the muscle, the fat content must be quite high; it's suitable for slow cooking."
"This scalpel will take your liver. Tsk tsk tsk, it tastes best when it's completely removed, takes some patience."
"This cleaver will be used to deal with your thing. Don't worry, I'll feed it to the stray dogs on the street."
"This probe is used to extract your bone marrow. Ah, bone marrow is the essence."
"ah!!!"
Timothy suddenly yelled, broke free from the doctor's hand, and scrambled to run away.
It was a fear that came from the depths of his soul; he would rather die than face Lu Yiming again.
But as soon as he took a step, Lu Yiming and Leo grabbed him from both sides and dragged him into the ward next door.
"Be gentle with him! He has severe post-traumatic stress disorder!" the doctor shouted from behind.
Lu Yiming didn't care about any of that; this guy was a complete scumbag.
You harmed so many children before, and now you think you can escape punishment just because you got a mental illness?
Well, this is America, it seems like it might actually work.
"Please, let me go... don't eat me..." Timothy was thrown onto the metal bunk bed and struggled frantically.
The two men swiftly used restraints to immobilize him.
Lu Yiming walked up to him and looked at his distorted face.
"I'll ask, you answer. If you answer incorrectly, or if you don't meet my expectations, you know very well the consequences."
Timothy screamed, his voice trembling with fear:
"This is illegal! You're abusing mentally ill people! I want to see a lawyer! I'm going to file a complaint against you! I'm going to expose you to the media!"
Leo stepped forward, took out a small plastic bag containing white powder, and stuffed it into Timothy's collar.
"Now, it's not illegal."
Lu Yiming was somewhat surprised. Why did this old gay man carry such a thing with him?
"Brother! Ask away! I'll tell you anything you ask!" Timothy immediately backed down.
Lu Yiming cut straight to the point: "How much do you know about Lazarus kidnapping the police officers?"
"I don't know!"
Timothy cried out, tears streaming down his face, "I've lost all contact with them! I haven't known anything since I was arrested! They abandoned me! I'm a scapegoat!"
Lu Yiming took out his phone, pulled up the footage of the three hooded men from the surveillance camera, and held it up to his face: "Do you recognize them?"
Timothy glanced at it once and shook his head frantically:
"I don't know him! I really don't know anything about it! I only collected money in the organization, I don't know anything else."
Lu Yiming felt that the other party was not mentally ill at all.
Isn't the logic behind this statement very clear?
Or do you claim to be a miracle doctor?
He put away his phone, gave Leo a wink, and made a move to walk outside.
"Forget it, it's pointless. I'll go find some kitchen knives and chop him up. Let's not waste medical resources."
"Wait, wait! Don't kill me! I remember now!"
Timothy was terrified and screamed, "I...I still have a contact's phone number!"
"Are you like a candle, only lit and not shining?" Lu Yiming slapped him.
"Call him."
Leo shoved the phone into his hand. Timothy's fingers trembled as he typed in a number.
The phone rang three times before being answered.
A hoarse female voice came from the other end:
"All men must die."
Timothy glanced at the two of them and said with some embarrassment, "But I shall live forever."
Lu Yiming's lips twitched. Are your secret codes so childish?
Timothy tried to make his voice sound normal: "It's me, Timothy."
There was a two-second silence on the other end, clearly not expecting this response:
"Timothy? Weren't you arrested?"
Lu Yiming pressed the pistol against Timothy's head.
Feeling the threat of death, Timothy answered honestly:
"Haha... I pretended to be crazy and fooled them. I was sent to a mental hospital, but I finally escaped and contacted you guys."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone, presumably as they considered the veracity of the claim.
"What happened to that batch of gold? Who took it?"
Timothy was taken aback. Gold? It was lost during the escape.
When the police took the statement later, they didn't mention the gold.
In order to get a shorter sentence, he also concealed this part of the embezzled money.
Could it be that……
He turned and looked at Lu Yiming with suspicion.
Lu Yiming glared at him, his eyes full of warning.
Timothy instantly understood and said into the microphone:
"Haha, it's still in my hands, I've hidden it."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, followed by an angry roar:
"Useless trash, where are you hiding? Do you know that we even kidnapped a policeman for this batch of gold?"
Lu Yiming and Leo exchanged a glance, their hearts sinking simultaneously.
It really was Lazarus who did it!
Leo immediately rushed out the door to notify the department.
Lu Yiming took out his phone from his pocket, quickly typed something, and handed it to Timothy, indicating that he should read it aloud.
Timothy glanced at the screen and replied accordingly, "The gold is with me. Where are you? I'll come find you..."
……
After a while, Leo returned to the room.
"I've already notified the bureau; we can just wait here."
But there's hardly anyone left.
Lu Yiming and Timothy have both disappeared.
All that was left was a note with an address and a single line of text.
[Can I borrow your car? And can I borrow the Remington 700P sniper rifle in the back seat too?]
