Chapter 136 Overture
Chapter 136 Overture
Seeing Gu Shiming's expression, Ji Yongsheng could roughly guess what he was thinking.
Ji Yongsheng was well aware of the rumors circulating in the company, and of course he knew that Gu Shiming had been misunderstood.
However, this kind of thing happens everywhere, and Ji Yongsheng was no exception. He was only a few years younger than Dai Songquan, and although he wasn't a member of the founding team, he had joined the company quite early.
He started out in a technical role before moving to logistics support. Over the years, he's done a lot of dirty and tiring work for the company, and few employees have a good word to say about him; behind his back, they all call him a "smiling tiger."
Ji Yongsheng was once very frustrated by this. He did those things out of the company's interest. It should be said that many people in the company benefited from him, but few people appreciated his efforts.
After being disliked by many people, he stopped caring and just let them say whatever they wanted.
Dai Songquan snapped out of his reverie and, seeing the other three sitting idly by, picked up his chopsticks: "Let's eat, everyone. We'll talk after we finish eating."
The other three then picked up their chopsticks and started eating.
None of the four ate quickly. However, apart from Wei Hongsi, the other three didn't eat much, stopping after only one bowl, making Wei Hongsi seem like a glutton.
Ji Yongsheng placed the bowl of rice next to Wei Hongsi: "You're young, eat more, otherwise you won't have any energy in the afternoon."
Dai Songquan nodded with a smile and said, "Yes, you mustn't go hungry, otherwise your teacher will say that I, as an off-campus tutor, can't even feed you properly, what kind of talk is that?"
After finishing a bowl of rice, it seemed as if he had swallowed down all the surging emotions along with it, and returned to his usual state.
Zhou Qihong had mentioned the matter of having Dai Songquan become Wei Hongsi's off-campus tutor during a phone call with Dai Songquan, and bluntly said that he was getting a good deal.
Dai Songquan felt that his old classmate was right. Wei Hongsi had indeed made many contributions since joining the company, some of which were irreplaceable. If he had gone to another company, it would have been a huge loss for Zhiwei, so they gladly took in this valuable student.
The police report this morning came at a very timely time, especially the true situation of Xia Yuansheng, which will be of great help to the shareholders' meeting this afternoon.
Dai Songquan invited Ji Yongsheng and Gu Shiming to dinner to discuss some related matters.
Wei Hongsi didn't mind eating a bit more in front of his superiors; after all, food is of paramount importance. He was just concerned about what the three were going to discuss, something he might not be suited to listen to, so he figured it would be better to eat out. But since President Dai had said so, he wasn't in a hurry.
"Yongsheng, any new developments on your end?" Dai Songquan asked, since there was no one else in the room, he didn't need to use his official title.
"Most people are still in the same situation as before." Ji Yongsheng took out his phone and opened the memo app. "Only General Manager Li and General Manager Liu said they could wait and see."
Dai Songquan nodded slowly: "That's about right."
Ji Yongsheng hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Will someone represent President Xia's opinion?"
Dai Songquan said, "It's fine whether it exists or not."
Ji Yongsheng and Gu Shiming exchanged a glance, understood what President Dai meant, and couldn't help but smile.
This is not to say that the presence or absence of a representative is unimportant, but rather that each has its own specific tactics, both of which will be advantageous to one's own side.
Dai Songquan looked at Wei Hongsi, who was serving rice: "Hongsi, your report this afternoon is the third segment. You need to be prepared, you'll be the target when you get on stage."
Wei Hongsi had anticipated this and asked, "President Dai, do you have any specific requirements for me?"
Dai Songquan said, "You are free to do as you please. I just want to see what the attitudes of the shareholders are. If we can understand everyone's true intentions, then it will be a success for us. It doesn't matter if there is no resolution this time; it will not affect the progress of the project."
Wei Hongsi nodded and said, "Understood."
Ji Yongsheng and Gu Shiming also nodded.
Dai Songquan said, "After you finish eating, go find Qian Jiayu and learn about the company's articles of association."
Wei Hongsi replied, "Okay."
Dai Songquan then discussed some matters related to the afternoon meeting with Ji Yongsheng and Gu Shiming, while Wei Hongsi focused solely on eating.
After Wei Hongsi finished eating, they had finished their conversation and left the restaurant together.
Wei Hongsi first went back to his office and sent a message to Qian Jiayu to ask if he was in his office and knew about the matter before going to his office on the 9th floor.
Qian Jiayu was sitting on the sofa, drinking tea and looking at materials.
Wei Hongsi knocked and came in, and he asked Wei Hongsi to sit at his desk: "It's open on the computer, take a look yourself."
Qian Jiayu then placed a bottle of water on the table: "This is your first time here, so I don't have much to offer you. You don't drink tea, so just have this water."
"Thank you, Mr. Qian," Wei Hongsi said.
Qian Jiayu patted him lightly on the shoulder and returned to the sofa to continue looking at the materials.
Wei Hongsi looked at the document on the screen and kept flipping through the pages.
The company's articles of association are quite extensive, but not everything needs to be memorized. Mr. Dai's suggestion that he review the articles at this time is essentially highlighting the key points for him.
He made sure to memorize things like capital contribution and equity structure, voting rights and dividend rights, the division of powers of the shareholders' meeting, and rules of procedure, while he only needed a general understanding of the rest.
Wei Hongsi spent about ten minutes reading it, memorized it in his mind, and then glanced at the key points to confirm that his memory was correct before leaving his desk.
"Mr. Qian, I've finished reading it."
"So soon?" Qian Jiayu was somewhat surprised, and said half-jokingly, "The meeting this afternoon is different from usual. I can only attend as an observer and can't say much on your behalf."
Wei Hongsi said with a smile, "I'm just reporting on a project, I don't need to know too much."
"As long as you have a clear understanding," Qian Jiayu said, walking to his desk. "Sign here. We can't be careless about the procedures."
After signing the document, Wei Hongsi said goodbye to Qian Jiayu and returned to his office. He then opened the PowerPoint presentation he was preparing for the report and made some further revisions.
He had never met most of the company's shareholders, big and small. However, since they were at odds with President Dai and opposed investment in research and development, they would obviously find fault with him.
Wei Hongsi's revisions this time were not aimed at perfecting the content, but rather deliberately left some flaws, waiting for people to find them.
However, these flaws could not become leverage against him, otherwise he would be shooting himself in the foot. So he patched up the flaws he had left out on several pages later.
After making the revisions, he read them through from beginning to end, mentally rehearsed the scenario of being challenged, and felt that there were basically no problems.
After making the changes and saving them, I couldn't help but wonder if what I did was a bit malicious, or if it counted as trolling.
