Chapter 19 Pleasant Cooperation
Chapter 19 Pleasant Cooperation
The Holy Lord's pupils contracted slightly as he listened to Tony's words.
Tony waved his hand: "Don't be nervous, it's just a routine check. I do it for every new teammate. It's just that your blood is quite interesting."
Tony ignored Shendu's reaction and continued, "Your cellular structure is completely different from that of humans, yet it doesn't seem like that of a purely alien creature."
"I've discovered something ancient in your genes, something that's been sealed away for a long time and has only recently been reactivated."
He looked at the Holy Lord: "But I can understand it. After all, dragons are legendary creatures. However, I also asked Thor for some dragon blood from Asgard. You are clearly not on the same level."
The Holy Lord remained silent for a long time.
He quickly calculated in his mind: How much did Tony know? How much of his story about the mole had Tony believed? If he turned against him now, could he get out of here unscathed?
The Holy Lord quickly arrived at the answer: no.
Since Tony dared to say these things to my face, it means he was prepared.
There are likely a large number of armored vehicles waiting outside, and his strength has not yet fully recovered. A direct confrontation is not a wise choice.
"Mr. Stark is indeed astute."
The Holy Lord spoke, his tone tinged with helplessness, "You're right, I am indeed not an ordinary dragon. In my eyes, the dragons of Asgard are just large winged lizards."
The Holy Lord tried his best to appear very honest: "As you know, I come from another world and was once a powerful being, but for some reason, I lost most of my power and can only exist in this form now."
"As for why I'm familiar with Chitauri technology, it's because I've seen similar creatures in my world."
Tony squinted at him, as if trying to discern the truth or falsehood in the Lord's words.
Shendu continued, "I know you don't trust me, which is wise, but I can tell you that I have no ill intentions towards Earth right now, and I am on the same side as the Avengers."
"The same camp?"
Tony repeated, a hint of amusement in his voice, "Then why did you do these things behind S.H.I.E.L.D.'s back?"
The Holy Lord spoke with an air of certainty: "I'm not sure who's trustworthy. If there really is a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D., exposing too much of myself would only give that mole a head start."
Tony was silent for a few seconds before laughing again.
"Okay, I'll accept this explanation for now."
"But if you want me to clean up your mess, an explanation alone isn't enough."
The Holy Lord looked at him: "What does Mr. Stark want?"
Tony stepped forward: "I want your blood."
The Holy Lord's pupils contracted slightly.
Don't worry, it's not much.
Tony waved his hand: "Give me some samples periodically so I can continue my research. Don't worry, I'm only interested in your genetic structure; I won't use it for anything else."
He looked at the Holy Lord and emphasized, "These are the conditions. If you are truly on our side, you wouldn't mind letting me know more about you, right?"
The Holy Lord stared at Tony, his mind racing.
Agreeing to Tony's conditions means that some of his secrets will continue to be investigated, potentially risking exposure.
But if I don't agree, today's situation will be impossible to resolve, and I will completely lose Tony's trust.
More importantly, Tony had already drawn his blood, and refusing wouldn't change that fact.
"Can."
The Holy Lord finally nodded: "But I also have conditions."
Tony raised an eyebrow: "Tell me about it."
"First, my blood can only be used for research and cannot be given to S.H.I.E.L.D. or any other organization."
Tony nodded: "That makes sense."
"Secondly," the Holy Lord said, looking at Quill beside him, "this matter should not implicate him and his mother; they are innocent."
Tony's gaze swept over Quill: "Okay."
"third."
The Holy Lord glanced at the agent who had just turned into a human, and Tony, being sensible, gestured for the agent to stay away for the time being.
"I need Mr. Stark to keep a secret for me."
Tony's eyes narrowed slightly: "What secret?"
The Holy Lord took the monkey charm from Quill and opened his palm in front of Tony.
"this."
Tony stared at the talisman, his brow furrowing slightly. "Is this the pendant?"
The Holy Lord nodded and explained, "Yes, this is an item from my world. It has special powers, but it is not dangerous. I need it to restore my power, and I cannot let too many people know about its existence."
Tony didn't expect that the last condition would simply be to keep it a secret.
"So all that trouble you went through was for this?"
"Yes," the Holy Lord said candidly.
Tony looked at him with a scrutinizing gaze, and finally nodded: "Okay, I can keep this secret for you, but you have to tell me what this thing can do."
The Holy Lord hesitated for a moment before slowly speaking: "It can transform people or animals."
Tony raised his eyebrows.
"Like that secret agent turning into a rooster?"
"Yes."
Tony stared at the talisman for a long time, then whistled, "Interesting."
He withdrew his gaze and looked back at the Holy Lord: "Alright, deal. Your blood in exchange for me cleaning up your mess and keeping the secret."
Tony extended his hand: "Pleasure doing business with you?"
The Holy Lord looked at the hand and slowly shook it: "It's a pleasure doing business with you."
"What do we do with this pigeon?" Tony pointed to the pigeon dressed in a secret agent uniform on the chicken coop.
"Easy."
The Holy Lord activated the Monkey Talisman, and a stream of light flew towards the pigeon, where a bewildered agent appeared.
"The rest is up to you."
Most of the S.H.I.E.L.D. patrolmen were drawn to the commotion caused by Shendu and went to investigate. Shendu and Quill, under Tony's cover, easily made their way out.
"Quail!"
After the interrogation, Quill's mother returned home and waited for a long time. When she saw her son return safely, she immediately rushed up and hugged him, saying, "Thank God, you're alright."
Quill responded to his mother's hug: "Mom, they didn't do anything to you afterward, did they?"
Quill's mother shook her head: "No, they sent me back after that since they didn't find out what I wanted."
The Holy Lord watched the mother and son from the side and chose to step aside. In his original world, filial piety was also a tradition. Unfortunately, his son was disappointing and wanted to kill him.
For the rest of the time, the Holy Lord did not disturb the mother and child. He went to the gas station that had been blown up by the wild boar that night and observed the ruins.
"What's wrong? What's on your mind again?"
After confirming with his mother that neither of them had been harmed, Quill approached Shendu and asked, "Does S.H.I.E.L.D. really have a mole? I've looked into their agents before. S.H.I.E.L.D. has brainwashed them using some method, so theoretically they shouldn't be able to betray us."
The Holy Lord raised an eyebrow: "There are definitely traitors within. Even if they are brainwashed, they will still be influenced by external forces and cannot become a fortress."
The Holy Lord thought of Tru, who had also been brainwashed but eventually betrayed him and became a great help to the Old Man.
"So how are you going to lure out the so-called mole?" Quill thought that what the Holy Lord said made some sense.
"It's simple, just send another mole to lure him out."
Quill's eyelids twitched upon hearing Shendu's plan: "Send another mole? You don't think S.H.I.E.L.D. is some small, staff-starved operation, do you? Besides, do you even have anyone in mind?"
"A candidate? I have an excellent candidate."
