"It's finally over!!" Looking at the equipment in front of her, Zeli felt a surge of excitement despite her exhaustion. After all, this was her new equipment—and it was made with high-purity Hextech crystals at its core!
It's important to know that even in the entire Zaun, very few people possess such a set of equipment—because the higher the purity of the Hextech crystal, the more demands it places on the user, or rather, the greater the mental strain.
"Giving you this land, in a sense, is actually a blessing in disguise."
Looking at the completed set of equipment, even Shuona couldn't help but sigh, "Under normal circumstances, an ordinary person would need a lot of auxiliary equipment to reduce the mental stress even when carrying just one Hextech Crystal. This set of equipment uses four high-purity Hextech Crystals and only uses less than a third of the burden-reducing modules compared to ordinary people... Even if it were a battle-hardened Noxian Resolver, wearing this set of equipment would cause him to faint on the spot within ten minutes at most."
As she spoke, she looked at Zeli, who was already excitedly putting on the equipment, and said, "It's obvious that the mental pressure from the happiness factor is tormenting you while also training your mental resilience... How are you feeling now? Is the pressure of activating the full set of equipment high?"
"This is nothing!" Zeli exclaimed excitedly. "It's not even half the mental stress from yesterday's happiness factor!"
This made Shuona's expression a little strange—the pressure of so many crystals was as if there was none? So what exactly did you guys do yesterday?
As she spoke, Zeli shot off with a whoosh! Her Hextech Overload Core, primarily fluorescent green, left streaks of light and illusions in the air as she ran with abandon, clearly showing how happy she was.
And Fan could understand Zeli's excitement.
Zeli's new equipment core is the Hextech Overload Core - Emotion Resonance Generator on her back. Its circuitry connects to Zeli's Spark Gun, her Electro Armor, and her bracers, knee pads, and boots through her protective gear. It allows for dynamic combat based on her emotional state in different situations.
When excited, the Spark Gun creates a regional electric grid upon hitting a target. When focused, it generates a powerful, penetrating electrical pulse. In a calm state, the electric armor forms a static field shield. In a state of tension or fear, movement speed and physical abilities are greatly enhanced, leaving numerous afterimages during movement. In normal circumstances, it can create electric field illusions and place electromagnetic teleportation anchors.
Of course, aside from changes in emotion, these abilities can also be released voluntarily. However, because arc magic is directly linked to Zeli's emotions, forcibly releasing it will result in many times the energy consumption.
Aside from these remarkable abilities, other skills such as using electric sparks to speed and glide across walls are enough to make people in the city, eager to have something to rely on, fight tooth and nail for them.
Watching Zeli run around like a happy puppy, Faen also turned his gaze to the equipment that Shuona had made for him.
This is a set of protective gear named 'Flowing Grip'. It doesn't have many fancy embellishments; instead, it's wrapped around Fain's arms like sports bandages. The core is an energy generator located on the back of the hand, with a Hextech crystal embedded in each hand.
Because of the bandage's unique construction, the arm and finger dexterity are not affected when worn. During combat, the bandage directly enhances Fane's punches, reduces the impact on his arms, and weakens the muscle load and reaction force generated by the convergence of force during attacks, allowing Fane to launch more reckless and continuous attacks.
The energy generator located on the back of the hand can form an energy barrier as needed to defend against enemy attacks in emergency situations.
“Actually, this hasn’t even unleashed the full potential of these two crystals.” Seeing Fan’s familiar fist-clenching gesture, Shuona walked over from the side with her arms crossed and said, “If you need, we have plenty of time to make them even more lethal.”
“That would be putting the cart before the horse.” Upon hearing Shuona’s suggestion, Faen disagreed, instead saying calmly, “What I pursue has never been destructive power, but whether it truly suits me. Greater destructive power also means requiring more enhancement modules for energy aggregation, transmission, and release. This would affect my own strength and agility…”
After a pause, Fain winked at Shuona and said something that every Ionian would say: "So, what I pursue is balance."
Fain has a clear understanding of his current situation and future path.
If it weren't for the fact that he hadn't met Ossilash, Fane would have readily agreed to Schona's suggestion. The enhancements from Hextech equipment would be far more important than the loss of agility.
but now……
As a being that is half-human and half-spiritual, Fane knows very well that his power comes from the happiness he can derive. As for the abilities he currently uses... to put it bluntly, Fane is even worried that these Hextech devices will malfunction if they get wet.
This sounds a bit far-fetched, because Hextech is naturally waterproof—its energy delivery process is magical, and as long as the energy lines are planned in advance, it will not malfunction when submerged in water.
The problem is that the water controlled by Fain also contains elements of the spiritual realm. This spiritual energy washes over Hextech crystals, which are also primarily based on magic, like a highly contaminated virus, something that ordinary Hextech equipment simply cannot withstand.
In this situation, the Flowing Water Grip can actually avoid being affected by the corresponding impact by relying on its simple structure and direct action.
"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
With that, Farn glanced at the sky and said, "Then let's set off now."
"Yes, go, Qingmo." Looking at Faen, who was already prepared, Shuona smiled and nodded: "Protect my daughter."
18. Jinx's Visit
That night, a thick, toxic fog enveloped all areas below the mid-levels of Zaun. As the fog rose, colorful neon lights painted the fog into a dreamlike, multicolored spectacle, attempting to use beautiful colors to make people forget the toxins accumulated within.
However, the environment in Zaun was different from before. In addition to the multicolored poisonous fog, beams of light occasionally rose from the dark corners, piercing through the fog and attracting people's attention. After noticing these flashing lights, the factory thugs hired by the alchemists and members of the Gutter Gang would follow the lights to their location.
When these people arrive, all that is often left behind is a light source and letters.
Of course, this was only before the leaflets were distributed. After the leaflets were distributed, new rebels emerged among the slave laborers of Zaun.
In the abandoned factory—
Standing on a makeshift, dilapidated platform, a thin, wiry worker leader, dressed in a single layer of clothing, with greasy, tangled hair and worn-out glasses with cracked lenses, clenched his fist and said:
"We are all workers! We are all slave laborers in the sewers! We are brothers and sisters! Those damned alchemical barons exploit our blood and sweat, using our health and lives to weave their alchemical towers and fine silks! But they repay us with endless pollution, using fourteen-hour alchemical factories to drain our lives and trample on our dignity!"
"They are our enemies! They are the enemies of all workers! Workers will never sink! We must unite! Let our streams of anger become a raging flood!!"
The worker leader spoke eloquently, his simple and straightforward words constantly impacting the thoughts of the workers present.
They were all organized by this worker leader—those who saw the leaflets rarely took the initiative to contact Qingmo.
Of course, this is also directly related to the alchemist barons' recent search and curfew.
Meanwhile, in the distant high-rise building, Faen and Zeli were also observing at a leisurely pace through tactical goggles.
Although they were far apart and it was nighttime, Zeli and Fain could still clearly see the factory through their high-tech goggles. While they couldn't hear what they were saying, Fain could directly sense their emotions—the intense emotions generated by this gathering were like a light source in the darkness for him.
Amidst this, the workers' emotions were predominantly anger and resentment. Even so, Farn was still able to draw strength from the 'hope' they felt deep within—though not as effectively as pure joy.
But soon, the two realized something was wrong. Pointing to a group of people rapidly approaching from the factory's perimeter, Zeli frowned and said, "It's the Alchemist Baron's thugs! Damn it, Fane, let's go help them!"
"Don't rush." Upon hearing this, Farn shook his head and calmly said to the clock tower that was leaning against the tower, "Let's wait and see... let the bullets fly for a while."
Below, in the factory, the worker leader was already giving a passionate speech.
"Brothers and sisters! Take courage, for our minds cannot be killed! In Zaun today, a considerable number of workers are already silently waiting for their opportunity, following the methods outlined in the leaflets! Waiting to become part of the tsunami! But in any case, reform will never be smooth sailing. So we must be prepared! Do everything well—"
Before the worker leader could finish his impassioned speech, a loud crash followed, and the dilapidated gate of the abandoned factory was kicked open by a pair of large feet. Looking in the direction of the sound, a burly man, nearly three meters tall, with muscular physiques and covered in tattoos, walked in.
Looking at the crowd, the burly man's eyes revealed a hint of excitement. He spat on the ground and gave a ferocious smile to the crowd who had nowhere to retreat.
"Damn it, I finally caught you! You bunch of slaves are useless when you're working, but you run faster than rabbits! I couldn't catch you at all!"
As they spoke, the thugs who had come along behind the burly man completely blocked the only exit of the abandoned factory.
The slave laborers, who had tried to signal for help by casting their lights at the gang thugs hired by the Alchemist Baron, showed fear as they looked at the seemingly refined man.
Swallowing hard, the seemingly refined worker leader took a deep breath and said, "Don't be afraid, brothers. Although they outnumber us, if we work together, we'll definitely escape!"
As they spoke, the worker and the burly man exchanged glances. Then, the burly man sneered, gripped his short stick, stepped forward, and without hesitation, raised it high and brought it down heavily. One of the slave workers couldn't dodge in time and was sent flying, his already broken teeth shattering and scattering across the ground.
"Trying to escape? I'd like to see how you get out! Why don't you shout louder and see if anyone comes to save you?!"
Seeing that the gang thugs had already made their move, the worker leader did not back down. He merely wiped the cold sweat from his temples, then adjusted his tattered glasses and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Fight them to the death!!"
As he spoke, the workers, who had been gripped by fear, unleashed what little courage they had left in their despair. But upon witnessing their resistance, the burly man showed no fear whatsoever; instead, he clapped his hands with a cold laugh.
Then everyone saw that the five fingers on his right arm were bent backward, revealing a dark gun barrel through the fingertips.
"Fight my bullets!"
As they spoke, gunfire erupted, bullets whistling through the air and striking the leading worker, sending him flying.
Flesh and blood are no match for steel. Once the gang thugs displayed their weapons, the already unarmed workers were immediately at a complete disadvantage. Although they possessed alchemical prosthetics, these were mostly work-related prosthetics purchased with loans from the alchemical baron at the alchemy factory. They were incomparable to genuine combat prosthetics.
In the distance, Fain pressed down on Zeli's hair, sensing the girl's agitated emotions, and quietly said, "Calm down."
Inside the factory, looking at the crowd filled with despair, the burly man gave a cold laugh. He then approached the foreman who was struggling on the ground, looked at his twitching body and bleeding limbs, and coldly raised his right arm: "Be more careful in your next life."
As he spoke, another burst of fire erupted. The worker leader's body rose and fell with the impact of the bullets, and soon a pool of blood appeared on the ground.
The burly man then looked at the rest of the group, sneered for a moment, then his expression suddenly changed, and he muttered a curse:
"Damn it, is that Green Demon dead? Why hasn't he shown up after all this acting!"
Upon hearing the burly man's words, the workers who had been gripped by fear like startled quails were also filled with confusion. But before they could recover, they noticed that several of their fellow workers were also looking impatient and bored as they walked out of their group and joined the gang of thugs.
Even more surprisingly, he chatted amicably with the thugs.
Upon hearing the burly man's words, the worker foreman, who had been shot dead by the 'pistol', moved his body a few times and then slowly got up from the ground.
He reached out and took the brand-new glasses handed to him by a gang member, his face filled with boredom and disgust as he said:
"Damn it... I've been hanging out with this bunch of stinking peasants for so many years and finally gathered this group of idiots. And they haven't even reacted yet. I think that so-called Green Demon is just a spineless coward!"
As he spoke, the worker leader… or perhaps a gang spy? shook himself and threw the blood plasma bag on the ground.
Looking at his gang brothers beside him, the burly man chuckled and said, "Who cares, boss? If all else fails, we can just find a few slaves to fool them. Anyway, those alchemist barons said that it doesn't matter whether the corpses hanging in the streets are those of rebels or not. As long as those lowly people know what happens when they resist them, that's enough."
"That's true." The gang leader stretched his neck a couple of times as he said this, "It's such a waste of all the time I've spent among this trash... I even arranged for a few of my brothers to infiltrate as shills."
As he said this, the gang leader also said to a few brothers who had come out of the pile of workers, "Don't say I treated you badly. I'll take you out for a good meal later!"
As he spoke, the leader glanced at the group of 'idiots' who had lost their ability to adapt due to the constant changes and sneered, "These morons may not be very bright, but they have plenty of fun things at home. Isn't that right, old Wright?"
Looking at a middle-aged man in the crowd who looked particularly old, the leader revealed an undisguised smile.
Upon hearing the leader's words, the middle-aged man's face revealed a genuine sense of fear and regret. But this did not elicit the slightest pity from the leader—
"Since your rebellion against the Alchemist Baron has been captured, then I'll take good care of your families, haha~"
Upon hearing this, the burly man beside him chuckled, then said leisurely:
"That so-called Green Demon is stupid. Why would he bother associating with those peasant alchemy slaves if he has the ability? A bunch of miserable wretches, in the end he'll still have to ask the Alchemy Baron for money."
"I've heard that Qingmo's little lackey is quite capable." A leader chuckled and added, "Supposedly a young girl? I bet the Qingmo flyer makes her sound so respectable, but she's probably quite the character in private. What kind of good guy would bring a young girl out to fight crime? Probably just for when they're in danger... hehe."
Just as they were laughing, one of the henchmen suddenly said, "Wait, what's that?"
Following the sound of his subordinate, they looked to one side and saw a green afterimage constantly moving through the dark factory.
Her eyes were filled with rage as Zeli ran wildly without uttering a word. The Emotion Resonance Motor sensed Zeli's emotional fluctuations and emitted a buzzing and howling sound. The enhanced energy flowed through the pipes into the combat boots, allowing Zeli to run, speed, and glide across the exterior of the building using the electrostatic field.
Knowing what was happening before the factory thugs arrived, Zeli felt an overwhelming surge of fighting spirit upon seeing them. Although puzzled after being stopped by Faen, Zeli chose to trust him. However, after witnessing the worker leader's death, Zeli did indeed almost lose control for a moment, but Faen again restrained her.
Although she trusted Fane in her heart, watching helplessly as her 'comrades' and 'brothers' were threatened, harmed, and slaughtered by the Alchemist Baron's lackeys filled Zeli with escalating pain and anger. Then, she saw the soaked 'worker leader' rise from the ground…
Farn's lip reading might not be perfectly accurate, but combined with the 'workers' leader's' face revealed in the goggles and the gang thugs laughing in agreement, Zeli knew that Farn hadn't deceived her... rather, she had been deceived once again because of her own immaturity.
Although Farn repeatedly emphasized that it wasn't his fault, but rather the way human nature is, Zeli couldn't convince herself so easily.
"You damned bastards, I won't let a single one of you get away with this!"
Zeli spoke angrily, and the happiness factor reagent integrated into the emotional resonance motor was injected into her body. As her emotions surged, green lightning crackled around her. The motor, centered on a Hextech crystal, was more than ten times more efficient than the spark plug Zeli had previously made by hand, and was also far more stable and reliable. In the night, Zeli resembled an arc of death.
Almost the instant the gang thugs spotted them, a piercing pulse cleared a space.
Upstairs in the distance, Faen didn't accompany Zeli. After all, today's main purpose was to test the combat performance of Zeli's equipment and help her quickly familiarize herself with how to control it. As for these thugs…
To be honest, let alone Zeli now who is fully equipped, even Zeli who used to wield a broken spark gun could have taken out these cowardly gang thugs one by one by using guerrilla tactics.
Well, but if that gang leader, disguised as a worker leader, suddenly turns against you and launches a sneak attack, that's a different story.
But now that she's in her new divine gear, the electrostatic field of this equipment means that ordinary bullets are practically nothing to Zeli, making her completely safe in every sense.
After thinking about it, Fain nodded, then looked to the side and said, "Alright, you've been watching for so long, it's time to come out, isn't it?"
Upon hearing this, Jinx tossed her braid and emerged from the shadows, her face beaming with a smile and her eyes filled with curiosity: "How did you find me?"
The Human Network was tragically wrecked by Nurgle's defection.
As the title suggests, after undergoing anal fistula surgery nine months ago, my friend developed a new fistula seven months later. He just had surgery yesterday, and although practice makes perfect, it was still incredibly exhausting. Fortunately, he had enough manuscripts saved up, so he doesn't need to worry about updates or the sudden surge in updates after publication. I also hope that other guys will take this as a warning: exercise more and sit less.
19. Hilco and Vander
Emerging from the shadows, Jinx curiously examined Faen before her.
Just as Fain had arrived early, Jinx had also spotted Fain... or rather, Zelly's figure early on. Knowing full well what had happened in the factory, Jinx, swinging her braid back and forth, looked at Fain with keen interest and said:
"Hmm, it seems the legendary Blue Demon is younger than I imagined. You know what? That guy Hilko is obsessed with finding you, and the other alchemical barons are all fascinated by your head. You've suddenly disappeared for so many days; if it weren't for the alchemical barons' ongoing search, I would have thought you were already fish food in Saltwater Harbor!"
"It's alright," Fain replied listlessly to Jinx's question, his eyes still fixed on the battlefield not far away. After confirming that Zeli had secured the victory, he turned to Jinx beside him and said:
"What was Hilko's reaction? Has he made a decision yet?"
"...You've talked?" Upon hearing this, Jinx frowned slightly after a brief silence, looking at Fain's calm expression, and asked, "You've already been in contact?"
Fane's reaction was rather bland, which made Jinx hesitate. Especially Fane's question, which made Jinx wonder if Hilk had already spoken with Fane—it wouldn't matter if they had just spoken, but the fact that Jinx herself was completely unaware of this surprised her.
“We haven’t talked yet, but it’s pretty much the same.” Sensing Jinx’s suspicion, Fain said calmly, “You can relax. Hilko may have initially seen you as a simple killing tool, but for this guy who values individual emotional bonds, he’s already raised you like his own daughter.”
"..."
Upon hearing this, Jinx remained silent for a moment before letting out a cold laugh. She then said indifferently, "So how did you know all this? Or were you already investigating me? If so, how did you do it? Did you go to my dear sister?"
As Jinx spoke, the look in her eyes became extremely chaotic. This left Fain, who was standing beside her, somewhat helpless—Jinx's mental health issues were quite serious.
This severity goes beyond mere extremism, paranoia, or bipolar disorder. It means that even without mentioning it, simply triggering some additional associations can produce a severe stress response.
Stress response is essentially a self-defense mechanism of life, and therefore, stress response behaviors vary from person to person. For ordinary people, it might simply mean strong resistance, aversion, and an instinctive avoidance. But for Jinx... just recalling certain past memories triggers a strong self-destructive tendency and destructive urge.
"Don't rush me. In fact, I've known about the story that happened here since I was very young. Calm down, and I can tell you the story slowly."
