Chapter 6 Jordan: Coach, I want to play point guard!
When Phil Jackson drafted Lin Tian a few months ago, he hadn't actually watched a single one of his games. He wasn't even there for Lin Tian's tryout in Chicago. All the information Jackson had about Lin Tian came from rookie reports, college stats, and from head coach Clemens.
After all, the Bulls only had one 52nd pick in the draft, and Jackson was too lazy to spend too much time researching that pick.
That's good enough!
Moreover, the person who truly made the decisive suggestion on who to choose was that fat guy, Klaus. How should I put it, the relationship between Jackson and Klaus?
It's roughly the kind of situation where both partners desperately want to pin each other's mothers down and ravage them, and if possible, have the other kneel on the ground and watch with wide eyes.
It's not a fight to the death, but it's pretty much that.
But who is Jackson? The league's top psychologist, a master of manipulation and motivational speeches, is arguably the league's number one tactical expert!
If he really wants a particular player, he has plenty of ways to make Krause choose.
It all comes down to whether it's worth his effort.
As for Lin Tian, Jackson's impression was actually quite simple.
A tall, intelligent, psychology major, and an Ivy League graduate!
With these factors combined, even though Jackson had never watched a single second of Lin Tian's game, he felt he could select someone to give it a try.
This type of player—highly intelligent, tall, and with average physical abilities—is exactly Jackson's favorite!
Of course, monsters like Kobe, Jordan, and Shaq don't count; no one dislikes monsters like that!
Besides, he's just a late second-round draft pick anyway. If he gets drafted poorly, it's Krause's problem, what does it have to do with me, Phil Jackson?
So, over the next few days, Jackson cleverly made Klaus think that he considered Lin Tian a piece of trash, and a very annoying piece of trash at that.
So, at the draft at the end of June, Lin Tian naturally became a member of the Bulls!
Krause's thinking was simple: if a second-round draft pick is a bust, it's because Jackson doesn't know how to use players, what does it have to do with Krause, the league's top general manager?
Thus, by a twist of fate, Lin Tian became a member of the Bulls!
Lin Tian knew nothing about any of this, nor did he need to know; it was simply unimportant.
The important thing is that Jackson didn't care at all that Lin Tian had offended three tightly knit fringe players on the first day of training camp, thinking it was nothing. But the fact that he dared to mess with Jordan made Jackson curious!
Is this kid stupid, or is he really tough?
Thinking about this, Jackson suddenly felt a surge of anticipation for the training camp; his mischievous side was completely ignited! So, just as the situation on site became increasingly heated, with Lin Tian and Jordan locked in a fierce battle, their heads almost touching, Jackson clapped his hands and shouted, "Come on, kids! Come here! Training camp is officially open!"
"Consider yourself lucky, kid!" Jordan sneered, walking past Lin Tian. "Hopefully you have the ability to match your guts, otherwise you'll really disappoint me!"
"I thought your trash talk would get even fiercer, but it's just so-so now. I'm starting to get disappointed!" Lin Tian had no intention of stopping while he was ahead, and he threw out another trash talk, trying to provoke Jordan's emotions!
The experience points lost by those three henchmen were nothing!
What Lin Tian wants is the good stuff that Jordan has revealed!
This is the god of basketball!
Unfortunately, Jordan's mentality was indeed quite thick-skinned; these few trash-talking remarks didn't affect him at all. He simply turned to Lin Tian and said, "I hope your mouth stays this tough during practice!"
Just as Lin Tian was about to say something more, the players on the field had already started to walk quickly toward Jackson. They quickly gathered and waited for Jackson to give them a speech. Most of them didn't care at all about Lin Tian offending Jordan.
This alliance has many arrogant young people who don't know their own limitations, but there are also a few with better hearts. At this moment, their expressions towards Lin Tian are full of sympathy.
Some experienced guys have even started planning to help Lin Tian organize his locker.
Offending Jordan would have dire consequences!
They didn't think Lin Tian could stay with the Bulls after offending Jordan!
Jackson, however, seemed to see nothing and know nothing. As usual, he gave an inspiring speech as the opening remarks for the training camp, and the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls training camp finally officially began!
Initially, his physical strength, condition, and various training were all relatively normal.
Lin Tian was also meticulous, striving to complete every task.
Towards the end of training, when Jackson gathered everyone together again to prepare for a practice match to check everyone's condition, what everyone knew was going to happen finally happened!
Jordan calmly raised his hand and said, "Coach, I'd like to try playing point guard. I've practiced a lot of that stuff over the summer. How about I give it a try? Ron, how about you play shooting guard?"
Ron Harper, of course, dared not have the slightest objection to Jordan's suggestion and quickly nodded in agreement.
Jordan continued, "This rookie, what's his name? On his first day with the team, how about he step onto the court and show everyone what he's got? Or are you so tired from practice that your legs are practically giving way? Hmm? A spineless coward?"
Normally, practice matches are always between the starting lineup and the reserve lineup. Steve Kerr usually plays point guard for the reserve lineup, but today it was Lin Tian. Even though he might not be able to play today, Kerr didn't have any objections.
After all, anyone with a brain could see that Jordan wasn't actually giving Lin Tian a chance; Jordan was looking for an opportunity to beat Lin Tian up and teach him a lesson!
Lin Tian, of course, wouldn't refuse Jordan's suggestion. He stared at Jordan fearlessly and said, "I told you, I'm not called Rookie, my name is Lin Tian! You can call me Lin, or LT!"
"Tell me your name after the game, if you're still alive." Jordan snorted and arrogantly walked past Lin Tian.
He hadn't felt this eager to beat someone up in a long time! Lin Tian, this rookie, was really arrogant!
But to be arrogant, you need to have the right to be arrogant!
If all you have is stubbornness, you won't gain any respect or recognition! Stubbornness alone makes you nothing more than a clown!
"So, Michael, Ron, Scott, Luke, and Dennis, you five will form a group."
"Lin, Steve, Zhu, Tony, and Bill, you five form a team, get on the field!"
