Chapter 9: The First Scream of the Detective Conan Era is About to Begin
While Akutagawa Hiko was enjoying dessert, Mouri Kogoro finally met his long-awaited idol. He changed his usual decadent, drunken image and looked quite presentable at first glance.
After finishing a calorie bomb, Akutagawa Hiko, who was well-trained and not worried about gaining weight at all, saw that it was almost time, so he bought a can of cola and some gifts and went up the stairs to the Mouri Detective Agency.
Ran was delighted that Akutagawa Hiko was visiting her home and warmly welcomed him.
It's true that neighbors should stay in touch often.
"Ah, no need to rush to entertain me, Uncle Mori, do you have business to do with?
Akutagawa Hiko tried his best to control himself, politely avoiding staring directly at Ran's increasingly prominent unicorn horn. He glanced at the reception room and used a question that dirty adults often ask when they already know the answer.
"Yes, today's client is a big star!"
At this point, Ran Mouri hesitated for a moment. From a professional ethics standpoint, the detective agency has a responsibility to protect the privacy of its clients, especially public figures.
"It's okay if it's inconvenient to talk about it; I can avoid the topic."
Ran Mouri felt a pang of conscience for a moment when she saw Akutagawa Hiko's disappointed expression, and immediately got up and walked towards the reception room.
"You wait here, I'll go ask if it's okay to tell you."
Hiko Akutagawa, holding a can of cola, sat on the sofa and nodded reservedly.
When Ran Mouri returned happily, she brought Conan with her.
Upon hearing that Akutagawa Hiko had come to the door, Conan forgot all his other requests and followed Ran Mouri out immediately.
After hearing Ran Mouri's account, Hiko Akutagawa understood.
Akutagawa Hiko's guess was correct; it was indeed the extremely famous idol Yoko Okino who had been followed multiple times, and her apartment had even been invaded by strangers.
There were also midnight phone calls, and threatening letters stained with blood...
After being subjected to a series of attacks, she couldn't even sleep well and was constantly worried about her personal safety, so she wanted to hire a detective to find out who was following her.
I don't know if it's lucky or unlucky.
This time, they weren't tracking one person, but two.
Under such double pressure, it's no wonder that a strong but not particularly courageous idol singer would be filled with anxiety.
Fortunately, this solves two hidden dangers at once, and also distinguishes it from those one-off supporting roles, allowing it to appear multiple times in the future.
"With fame comes trouble, and with Ms. Yoko's reputation, she is indeed prone to encountering such things."
Ran completely agreed with this statement, which also reminded her of Shinichi Kudo, who hadn't appeared for some time.
Shinichi Kudo is also a celebrity, though not as famous as some stars, but at Teitan High School, he's practically a household name, and a number of things have happened to him.
Ms. Yoko, a highly popular idol, must have it even harder.
After obtaining the phone number, address, and autograph, Kogoro Mouri immediately decided to go to Ms. Yoko's house to investigate.
"Uncle Mori, wait a minute."
Kogoro Mouri then noticed Hiko Akutagawa, who was sitting to the side and hadn't really stood out. He scratched his head and asked in confusion, "When did you get here, kid?"
Seeing Kogoro Mouri ignoring others, Ran, both exasperated and used to it, exclaimed in dissatisfaction, "Dad, Akutagawa-kun is a guest too!"
"Haha, it's alright. I also have a favor to ask. I'd like to ask Uncle Mori to take me with me. I've never seen a famous detective solve a case before."
Kogoro Mouri laughed heartily.
When it comes to facial expression management, Akutagawa Hiko only admires Mori Mori and Sonoko Suzuki. I'm really curious how they manage to do it.
Kogoro Mouri patted Hiko Akutagawa on the shoulder: "You're pretty quick-witted, kid. Well then, let me show you how the great detective Kogoro Mouri solves cases!"
Seeing this, Ran Mouri, a fangirl, immediately invited everyone to go together: "I really want to see what my idol's house is like, right Conan? Dad, please let us go!"
Kogoro Mouri feigned seriousness: "It's possible, but you absolutely can't interfere with my work, especially not this kid."
"yes!!"
Ran Mouri's idol worship is similar to worshipping gods at the University of Tokyo. Whether it works or not, you just believe in them. Whatever the big or small god, it doesn't cost money to believe in them.
Akutagawa Hiko thought of her autographed copy of the Death Note.
The vast majority of the signatures inside are rare and out of print; they've either been removed from office or imprisoned. Even the best ones have been affected and impacted.
I glanced at Conan's round head again, and it seemed as if I saw a death halo around him, haunted by countless wronged souls, wailing day and night.
I'm so envious...
Ugh, how awful!
Akutagawa Hiko cast a condemning glance at him.
Conan felt a chill run down his spine and quickly turned around to look around, only to see Akutagawa Hiko looking at him kindly.
It must be my imagination...
After agreeing, Kogoro Mouri remembered to ask the person who commissioned him for their opinion.
Seeing the rapidly growing crowd, Yamagishi Eiichi couldn't help but break out in a sweat: "There are just too many people..."
The implication was that they refused.
This won't do.
Akutagawa Hiko immediately said, "Isn't it better to have more people? There's more than one person following us, so having more people will make it easier to catch them."
"What?!"
Yoko responded to Akutagawa Hiko with a look of horror.
"It's just a very simple deduction: sending secretly taken photos, making silent phone calls, and rearranging the furniture are all obvious ways to avoid being exposed. And the fact that he would chase after Ms. Yoko while walking at night shows that he's not afraid of revealing his identity."
Akutagawa Hiko turned to Kogoro Mouri: "So, in other words, there are at least two stalkers. Uncle Mouri already discovered them, so going together will make it easier to subdue them, right?"
"Ah...ah?"
A bewildered Kogoro Mouri quickly recovered, his face beaming with confidence: "That's right, that's exactly what I thought!"
Ran Mouri was very supportive and praised, "Dad is so amazing!"
Eiichi Yamagishi glanced at Kogoro Mouri, whose expression was exaggerated, with a hint of suspicion, but finally nodded in agreement to let so many people go to Yoko's apartment together.
In the car, Yamagishi Eiichi clasped his hands together and said, "Please keep this a secret and investigate secretly. If this matter is exposed, it will definitely affect Yoko's image."
In front of his idol, Kogoro Mouri can still maintain a very convincing facade, although he always manages to break down in a second.
"I understand, I will definitely handle it as a top secret."
Seeing so many people around her, Ms. Yoko was no longer afraid of the strangers stalking her and let out a huge sigh of relief: "Thank you so much!"
Soon, the group arrived at Ms. Yoko's residence, where a magnificent building, quite rare for this era, came into view.
"Is this Ms. Yoko's residence? It's truly magnificent!"
As expected of the unreliable Uncle Mori, he instantly forgot about what he had just promised. Fortunately, no one noticed, and the group entered smoothly.
