Chapter 661 Sirius's Letter
Because he missed his return train, Sheren had to stay at Hogwarts for the Christmas holidays this year.
At this time of year, the castle would usually be quite empty, but this year is a bit different.
The Death Eaters' activities were becoming increasingly frequent, with wizards being killed almost daily. Fear was spreading to the point that most parents—especially half-blood wizards—would prefer their children to remain in the relative safety of Hogwarts.
So when Siron came to the auditorium for lunch, he didn't feel that anything was different from usual.
The auditorium was noisy, with people sitting on both sides of the four long tables.
For Siron, the only change was that Harry and the others weren't here.
Harry had been looking forward to spending a Christmas with Sirius, and this year he finally had the chance, not at someone else's house, but at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, Sirius's own home.
This was exactly what Harry had been dreaming of; he and Ron boarded the train back to King's Cross Station early that morning.
Hermione was going skiing with her family and went back with them.
"Silon?"
In the auditorium, Simon Finnigan looked at Celen in surprise as she walked in and asked, "Weren't you going home for Christmas? I remember you didn't sign the list of students staying on campus, right?"
"I missed my return train this morning." Xiren sat down next to Simo and picked up a chicken sandwich.
"Oh, I remember now, you didn't come for breakfast this morning," Simo said.
"Everyone from our dorm has gone back: Harry, Ron, Dean, and Neville." He also took a sandwich and added a lot of onions to it.
"I wanted to go back, but my mother disagreed. She thought it was safer for me to stay at Hogwarts—at least the Void wouldn't suddenly pop out of the fireplace."
Simo burst into laughter, as if he had just told a brilliant joke.
But Xilen didn't laugh; she just looked at him with a strange expression.
"It's surprising that your mother suddenly believes in Dumbledore again."
It was probably last year, before Voldemort made a public appearance and when Fudge was still Minister of Magic, that he published many unfavorable statements about Dumbledore in the Daily Prophet in order to go against Dumbledore.
At the time, newspapers almost portrayed Dumbledore as a mentally unstable old madman, and quite a few people believed it.
Among them was Simo, whose mother once wanted him to transfer schools.
"Probably after Fudge was kicked out," Seamus said. "It's less about who my mother believed more and more about the Daily Prophet. She insisted that everything in it was true—but Fudge told us that the Daily Prophet could be manipulated by the Minister of Magic—oh, this onion is getting a bit spicy, isn't it?"
Simo opened the sandwich and put the extra onions back on the plate.
"So I stopped believing in the Daily Prophet after that. In those particular times, it was just as ridiculous as The Quibbler."
After dinner, the younger students went outside to build snowmen and have snowball fights.
It's a pity that the two best snowball fighters have already graduated, otherwise they could have shown those kids what the ninety-nine tactics of a snowball fight are, and why snow is the least important factor in a snowball fight.
Before leaving the auditorium, Siren glanced one last time in the direction of the teachers' seats.
Very few professors came to dinner today. Dumbledore wasn't there, nor were Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, Snape, or even Slughorn.
Siren only saw Professor Sinesta, who was teaching astronomy, and Professor Trelawney, who was teaching divination.
Are they all helping Dumbledore find a potion to strengthen the soul? — The headmaster is really popular! —
Siren raised an eyebrow before returning to the Gryffindor common room with the others.
In the afternoon, Celen went to the library to borrow a few necessary books and started doing his homework at a table near the fireplace in the common room.
Although sixth graders have much less homework than fifth graders, Xilun has another important thing to do this holiday.
He wanted to go to the headmaster's office to see what was going on—well, to observe Dumbledore's soul recovery. If it met the requirements, he would remove the curse from Dumbledore again.
So he needs to finish his homework as soon as possible before that.
From afternoon to evening, Xilun spent most of his time sitting here doing his homework, until just before curfew, when a snow-white owl suddenly flew in through the window and landed lightly on the stack of books.
"Hedwig?" Siron looked at Harry's owl in surprise, and soon noticed a letter on its claws.
Siren thought it was a letter from Harry, but when he opened it, he found that the writer was Sirius Black.
It was 11 p.m., by the fireplace.
That's all the content of Sirius's letter.
Sirius probably guessed what Sirius was planning, but since it was still early, he didn't pay much attention. After giving Hedwig some water and nuts, he continued doing his homework.
The holiday homework for sixth graders was indeed much less than that for fifth graders, but it was much more difficult, requiring them to consult more books. Xiren worked from noon until night and only managed to finish two papers for the Spells class.
When Xilun put down his quill, there were less than five minutes left until eleven o'clock.
The common room was empty by now; everyone was looking forward to seeing their gifts the next day and had gone back to their dorms to sleep.
Xiren got up and sat down in the armchair closest to the fireplace, watching the firewood crackle in the roaring flames.
It's strange that the fireplace in the common room stays burning all day long, even though no one changes the firewood.
Gradually, the charred, white-tinged firewood suddenly moved, as if something was about to emerge from it, pushing upwards little by little. Suddenly, with a snap, it burst open a crack shaped like a mouth.
Then a head appeared in the fireplace.
"Good evening, Siron," the head said.
"Good evening, Sirius." Sirius waved.
This is another way to use Filunet: simply stick your head into the fireplace and shout where you want to go, and you can have a conversation through the fireplace like this.
However, the fireplaces in the Gryffindor common room do not have this route, just as you cannot use the Floo Network to directly reach Hogwarts.
Sirius Black's head must have been placed here through some means.
Sirren remembered that many employees of the Ministry of Magic had joined the Order of the Phoenix, not necessarily the main force, but definitely Dumbledore's people, including employees of the Department of Magical Transportation.
It shouldn't be difficult for Sirius to get their help.
