Chapter 10 Cake
Chapter 10 Cake
On the very day the security forces withdrew, Chloe couldn't wait to go out and find out what her neighbors thought.
As soon as she stepped out, the guy guarding the door immediately followed her, staying close behind her.
As one of the few remaining members of the security force whom Navilette had specifically spared, this officer's procedural orders stipulated that he must never be more than three meters away from her, demonstrating his utmost dedication to his duty.
Although it was Chloe who suggested having a bodyguard, Violet even thoughtfully remembered that she didn't want to always see the cold, unapproachable man, limiting the condition of being inseparable to only when going out. Chloe still looked at the tall security building in front of her with some distress.
Bringing such a big guy along, wouldn't it be too conspicuous to eavesdrop outside...?
Chloe's face was contorted with worry, but in the end she chose to give up.
There's no need to rush into finding out information; it's best to hold off for now.
I just didn't expect that this pause would last for several days.
During this time, Chloe also received letters from Navelette, delivered by the security guards at the entrance, informing her of the current progress of the investigation.
The investigation by the tabloid remained stalled, but a concrete clue had emerged regarding the pure white lily of the valley from last time. Zhu Yingting discovered strange traces near her home, and following the trail, they found a scrapped civilian-type wind-up robot on the outskirts of Fontaine.
The wind-up mechanical figure also had a small tape recorder attached to it, which, perhaps because it was out of power, played a few scattered notes intermittently.
After professional repair, it was confirmed that the content recorded on the tape recorder was exactly what Chloe had heard from her so-called "neighbor".
Although the civilian type of clockwork man is from the same lineage as the police force, the two have different tendencies. The former is smaller in size and does resemble a human. When disguised or not looked at closely, it is indeed easy to mistake it for a human.
In short, it can be confirmed that this clockwork man is the guy who shot Chloe.
The only pity is that they couldn't find any clues about the Pure White Lily of the Valley on the Clockwork Man. Although Shadow Court has begun to investigate buyers who have purchased this model of Clockwork Man, the huge workload may take a long time. At least for now, Chloe can only continue to stay at home.
After reading these, Chloe sighed helplessly and folded the letter back up and put it away.
If it weren't for Villette's letter, she would have almost forgotten about it, since things had been so quiet lately.
She didn't know if it was the security guards standing in front of her door that were too intimidating or what, but even the postman who delivered her newspapers recently started speaking in a soft voice.
Forget about pure white lilies of the valley, even the dogs that used to pass by her house have disappeared recently.
The overly safe situation made Chloe lower her guard.
She couldn't help but suspect that the guy who wrote the threatening letter with such force was actually just a wolf in sheep's clothing. After all, didn't she use a soft-tipped bullet at the beginning? Didn't she know that doing so would alert him? If she really wanted to kill her, she would have done it already, right?
Chloe was completely baffled.
Unable to figure it out, she simply stopped thinking about it and slumped onto the sofa, hugging the little sea otter and drifting off to sleep.
As if understanding that its owner was not in good spirits recently, the little sea otter nestled quietly in her arms, playing with the little seashells in her hands without uttering a single complaint.
In such a quiet environment, Chloe gradually fell asleep.
When she woke up again, the sun had already set. She rubbed her still blurry eyes and prepared to go to the kitchen to make herself something to eat, but there was a knock on the door again.
Chloe opened the door without any suspicion. As usual, her security detail stood outside, holding a box of unknown contents, just as it always did when it handed her the things Villette asked her to pass on.
But didn't she already receive Navelette's letter this morning? Could it be that she forgot to tell her something?
Chloe, puzzled, took the box and opened it.
*
A quarter of an hour ago, inside the Mo Mang Palace.
After saying goodbye to the last employee of the abstinence court, Sedna was preparing to pack her things and go home when the door to the judge's office suddenly opened.
She tilted her head to look at the man who came out and greeted him, "Good afternoon, Lord Vilette!"
"It's Sedna," Navelette replied, her expression softening. "Haven't you gone home yet?"
Sedna, clutching her backpack, hopped out of the small cubicle at the front desk and skipped over to him. "I was just about to head back. But speaking of which, is Lord Vilette leaving get off work so early today?"
He usually works on cases until very late, and this is the first time I've seen him at this hour!
Navelette nodded: "I plan to visit someone today."
"Are we going to visit Chloe?" Sedna's eyes suddenly lit up, and she looked extremely excited.
Navelette sensed something was off about her gaze, but he wouldn't lie, so he hesitated before replying, "Yes. Because of the Pure White Lily of the Valley, Ms. Chloe's stay at home has been extended indefinitely, and I was worried she'd be bored, so I went to check on her."
Although it happened several days ago, he still remembers Chloe complaining to him that the house felt so lifeless.
He couldn't agree to stay at her house temporarily, but he could visit her when he had free time.
Fortunately, he didn't have much to do today, and he managed to find some free time just as he was about to leave work.
Sedna wore a "I knew it" expression, her mouth forming a happy V-shape: "I knew it! Lady Vilette really cares about Chloe!"
Do you...care about it?
Navelette couldn't help but raise her hand to cover her lips, as if to hide the slight change in her expression caused by her words.
He coughed lightly, trying to cover up his misunderstanding, and said, "Ms. Chloe is a very friendly person."
Sedna chimed in with agreement, "Yes, Chloe is a really nice person! She always helps me out."
Although it was just a small thing like taking things down from a high place, the fact that she was the only one in the entire legal department who realized she needed this kind of help was enough to prove it.
"Although Lady Vilette and Chloe both say that what's written in the tabloids is false, sometimes I wish it were true," Sedna shrugged.
The naive Melusin had no idea what was most infuriating about the report; she only regretted that the two people she liked didn't seem to be really close.
But now it seems that the two of them are not as strangers as she thought!
Sedna thought excitedly.
Just then, she arrived at the entrance of Momang Palace. Realizing she couldn't slow down Villette's journey to find Chloe, she quickly jogged away.
Only after she had walked a distance did she turn back and wave goodbye to him: "See you tomorrow, Lord Violet! Oh, and Chloe also loves the cakes from the Grand de Bois Hotel, just like me!"

The author says: Although I did write about Meloshen's mouth, after conducting on-site investigations after going live, I found that miHoYo didn't even make mouths for their models _(:з」∠)_
