Chapter 17 Understanding Everything
Chapter 17 Understanding Everything
"Editor-in-chief, the photos are developed."
A dozen minutes later, Huang Chuanming walked into the office with a stack of photos. He had taken quite a few on site today, using up the entire roll of film.
In many of the photos, Fumihiko Kobayashi's face is contorted in pain, and his body is twisted, making him look somewhat terrifying.
"Summon He Wenyuan."
Su Yuncheng sat at his desk, laid out all the photos, and prepared to select suitable ones to be published alongside the news.
"I'll go get him right now."
He Wenyuan was responsible for the final typesetting and sending the samples to the printing factory. Su Yuncheng had a good reason for asking him, so Huang Chuanming didn't think much of it.
He Wenyuan followed Huang Chuanming into the office.
"Wen Yuan, reserve a spot on the front page today. The press release will be given to you later. Place these two photos in a prominent position."
Su Yuncheng placed the two selected photos in front of He Wenyuan. One photo showed Kobayashi Fumihiko lying on the ground after being hit by the car, and the other photo showed the tram driver getting off the tram, hands on his hips, looking at Kobayashi Fumihiko's body.
The French driver refused their interview. This photo was taken by Huang Chuanming from a distance, and the angle was excellent.
The two photos present a stark contrast, highlighting the French driver's disregard for life, making them perfect for publication in the newspaper.
He Wenyuan looked down at the photo, his pupils dilating instantly.
He recognized the man in the photo very well; they had just met that morning, and the money bag he had given him was still in the drawer.
How did he get hit and killed by the tram?
The tram accident that killed someone was the first news the newspaper had just gotten today. It had been the talk of the office since Su Yuncheng and the others returned, and He Wenyuan already knew about it.
Only then did they realize that he was Japanese, or a spy, and that Japanese spies were watching their editor-in-chief.
"He Wenyuan, what's wrong?"
Huang Chuanming noticed that He Wenyuan's body was trembling slightly and asked curiously.
"I, I'm not, it's nothing."
He Wenyuan was not very brave; his voice was dry and filled with obvious fear.
"If you have nothing to do, format it as soon as possible."
Su Yuncheng knew that He Wenyuan was timid, so he deliberately chose the most pitiful photo of Xiaolin.
It worked well; it successfully scared him.
"Yes, yes, I'll go right away."
He Wenyuan took a deep breath. Huang Chuanming was looking at him with a sharp gaze. He Wenyuan's behavior seemed a bit abnormal.
After He Wenyuan left with the photos, Huang Chuanming immediately went over and closed the door.
"Editor-in-chief, something's wrong with He Wenyuan. He seems very scared."
They work for a newspaper and have seen all sorts of photos of dead people, even more horrific ones than the ones taken today. Normally, they wouldn't react this way.
"Tell me, why would he do that?"
Su Yuncheng looked at Huang Chuanming. This question was both a guide and a training exercise for Huang Chuanming.
Huang Chuanming has already made contact with the Red Party, and may even have joined it. He must be careful in the future, as the Red Party's survival conditions are more difficult than any other organization.
After thinking for a while, Huang Chuanming said softly, "It's possible that he knows the person in the photo. Team leader, He Wenyuan received a phone call this morning. You asked him about it when he came back. He said it was a neighbor asking him to pay back money."
Su Yuncheng smiled slightly. Huang Chuanming was good; he guessed the relationship between He Wenyuan and Xiaolin so quickly.
"Go and check right away whether what He Wenyuan said is true."
Su Yuncheng gave the instructions, and Huang Chuanming immediately understood that the editor-in-chief had seen through everything long ago.
"Okay, I'll go right away."
Huang Chuanming left, while Su Yuncheng gently tapped the table.
He Wenyuan makes no attempt to hide his true nature; he has already been exposed.
Huang Chuanming was able to find out about his problem because they had a photo of Kobayashi Fumihiko. He Wenyuan had indeed seen Kobayashi that morning, so it wasn't difficult to get that result.
This potential hazard can be eliminated.
In the afternoon, Huang Chuanming returned, his face filled with anger.
"Editor-in-chief, He Wenyuan is usually stingy and never lends money to others. I asked the neighbors in our neighborhood, and this morning he met with Kobayashi Fumihiko."
Huang Chuanming did not disappoint Su Yuncheng and quickly uncovered the truth.
Why would Fumihiko Kobayashi, a member of the Japanese Special Higher Police, come to see He Wenyuan?
The answer is obvious: the spy bribed He Wenyuan, which is why seeing the photo of Xiaolin being hit and killed terrified He Wenyuan.
"It seems they're not only spying on me, but they've also infiltrated our ranks."
Su Yuncheng narrowed his eyes and said coldly. His acting was good, and Huang Chuanming did not notice anything unusual. He had no idea that Su Yuncheng already knew everything.
Everything that is happening now is part of Su Yuncheng's plan and guidance.
"Editor-in-chief, what should we do with him?"
"You don't need to worry about it. Just send a telegram to the boss and let him decide."
Su Yuncheng is the editor-in-chief, which is the highest position, but the newspaper ultimately belongs to Muto Tomohiro, so it is most appropriate to hand it over to Muto Tomohiro.
Muto Tomohiro is a power-hungry man. He would be very happy if he knew about He Wenyuan's affairs and dealt with them.
Su Yuncheng usually pays great attention to details, and many people who have come into contact with him trust him because he handles these small details very well.
"Okay, I'll go send the message."
When Huang Chuanming sent the telegram, two of his subordinates from the Shanghai Special Higher Police intelligence group were reporting to Mizuno.
"Team leader, we asked many people. When Kobayashi was crossing the tracks, the tram was passing by at high speed. After Kobayashi was knocked down, the tram ran over him."
"We asked around along the way and found that Mr. Kobayashi had been near the Municipal Council before and had smoked in front of a shop. Someone saw him."
"We checked Su Yuncheng's schedule for today. He went to the Municipal Affairs Bureau at the same time as Kobayashi."
Investigating Xiaolin and Su Yuncheng's whereabouts isn't difficult. Just buy a few packs of good cigarettes, ask around, and offer them cigarettes as you go. Anyone who knows will tell them.
"Is Kobayashi spying on Su Yuncheng?"
Mizuno immediately understood why Kobayashi had gone to Avenue Joffre.
"Yes, we asked the police. Su Yuncheng arrived at the scene after Kobayashi's incident and bought news from the police. People from their newspaper arrived very quickly and took a lot of photos there."
"Where was Su Yuncheng exactly when Xiaolin had the accident?"
Mizuno immediately asked the crucial question, and his subordinate replied, "We asked around. At that time, Su Yuncheng had already crossed the tram tracks and was about 30 meters ahead on the roadside. After Kobayashi was hit, someone saw him make a call at a public phone."
"Thirty meters?"
Mizuno frowned. When the Special Higher Police trained special agents, they had strict requirements for tracking and surveillance.
When tracking a target, the key is to be closer when there are many people around and farther away when there are few. This means that you should stay closer when there are many people around to avoid losing sight of the target because too many people will obstruct your view.
When no one is around, keep your distance so that your target doesn't realize you're being followed.
However, there is a special case: if the target has seen you before, then you should keep a distance of at least thirty meters.
Based on all the investigation results, Xiao Lin was indeed stalking Su Yuncheng. He had previously impersonated a shoeshine vendor and met with Su Yuncheng, so he deliberately kept a distance while stalking him.
Xiaolin's performance was flawless and met the tracking requirements.
"Anything else?"
Mizuno looked up and asked, but his two subordinates shook their heads. They had already reported the results of their investigation to their team leader.
"You guys go back first."
Mizuno waved his hand, and after his two subordinates left, he took out paper and pen and drew a topographical map of the location where Kobayashi had the accident.
When the incident happened, Su Yuncheng and Xiaolin were 30 meters apart, so it was impossible for him to have killed Xiaolin.
