Chapter 32 A Wish Granted: A Miraculous Rain Nourishes the Neighbor!
Chapter 32 A Wish Granted: A Miraculous Rain Nourishes the Neighbor!
Shixi Village.
Temple of the Dragon God.
A quiet room in a side hall.
Lin Shi closed his eyes and concentrated, his senses spreading like mercury across the entire village, taking full control of everything. A corner of his senses crossed the Qinghe River, covering the vegetable garden along its banks, while another wisp of thought, following the traces of faith, subtly locked onto Liu Laosi.
"Lord Rain God! Please open your eyes and look! The fields are afflicted by pests, and the harvest is doomed!"
"Let it rain! Let's drive away these damned insects!"
"If it truly works, we will remember your kindness for the rest of our lives."
Lin Shi heard it clearly.
"Fear mixed with hope, despair tinged with sincerity."
Lin Shi smiled, opened his eyes, and realized that the timing, the place, and the demands were all ripe.
"Always ready to grant your request!"
With a thought, Lin Shi sent his thoughts directly to his clone, the dragon.
At the bottom of the emerald pool.
The dragon slowly raised its head, and a faint light flashed across the dark, deep water beneath its scales. Without needing to use its primal power, it merely shifted its thoughts, and the water spirit energy within a radius of several miles seemed to be summoned, quietly gathering together. A wisp of extremely fine dragon breath, containing the power to purify and dispel evil, escaped from its nostrils, merging into the invisible spiritual energy, and drifted towards Shanghe Village.
Lin Shi was a little smug.
This clone of himself is accumulating more and more faith and becoming increasingly powerful.
Expanding our credibility among the masses is of utmost urgency!
We absolutely cannot miss this opportunity.
Lin Shi closed his eyes, concentrated, and locked his senses onto Liu Laosi. Although his own people were not present, he could see clearly what was about to happen.
Above Shanghe Village, the originally thin night clouds seemed to be slowly stirred, gathered, and sunk by an invisible hand. The night wind suddenly stopped for a moment, and even the chirping of insects seemed to hold its breath.
Then, the rain began to fall.
This was no ordinary rain.
The raindrops were as fine as cow's hair, shimmering with a faint, mother-of-pearl-like luster in the dim night. They fell softly, almost without a sound, and when they landed on the skin, they brought a refreshing coolness, carrying the unique freshness of the mountain forest after the rain, and a faint, strange fragrance, like a mixture of sandalwood and water.
The rain was controlled with remarkable precision, covering just enough to reach Liu Laosi's house and a few neighboring damaged vegetable plots, a mere acre in size.
At the edges, the boundary between dry and moist is distinct, as if an invisible barrier separates the inside from the outside.
Outside the barrier, the land is parched. Inside the barrier, a fine drizzle falls, nourishing all things.
A miracle occurred quietly in the rain.
Fine raindrops fell on the vegetable leaves covered with black beetles, as if they contained some kind of invisible purifying power. The shiny, fierce beetles seemed to be burned instantly, suddenly curling up their bodies, kicking wildly with their six legs, falling off the leaves and quickly becoming stiff and motionless after falling into the mud.
The vegetable leaves, riddled with holes from being eaten, did not immediately recover after being soaked by the rain, but their distressing wilting and yellowing were clearly halted.
In even finer details, the edges of the leaves even show a very faint, tender green sheen, like new buds, as if withered trees have come back to life.
"Rain! It's really raining!"
Yang Hu was the first to jump up, ignoring the drizzle that soaked his clothes, and rushed into the center of the vegetable garden. He stared wide-eyed at the insect corpses falling in a flurry, caught a few raindrops in his hand, and burst into laughter. His laughter sounded abrupt and exhilarating in the quiet rainy night.
"It worked! It really worked!"
Lu Cheng squatted down, his trembling hand stroking a cabbage leaf. The underside of the leaf was clean, without a single living insect. He raised his head, letting the drizzle fall on his face, mingling with the warm tears welling up in his eyes, his lips trembling as he murmured repeatedly.
Liu Laosi didn't move. He remained kneeling in the rain, head tilted back, the fine rain soaking his deeply lined face. He neither cried nor laughed, but simply gazed silently in the direction of the Azure Pool, then lowered himself deeply, his forehead pressed against the damp earth, remaining there for a long time. The pebble in his arms remained warm, as if echoing the gentle rain falling from the sky.
Liu Laosi, Lu Cheng, and Yang Hu were overjoyed, which startled many people who were guarding the vegetable garden to catch insects.
Zhang Hong witnessed a scene that she would never forget.
Above Liu Laosi's vegetable garden, a hazy rain curtain fell like a light veil, with shimmering lights in the rain, creating an eerie yet sacred contrast with the surrounding night. The black insects that had been rampant during the day were now falling in swarms.
"Oh my god!"
Zhang Hong covered her mouth, her legs going weak.
Soon, more vegetable farmers, tormented by pests, gathered around. Standing on the dry ridges of their fields, they stared in disbelief at the miraculous patch of rain, at the slightly revived seedlings within it, and at their own fields outside, still ravaged by pests and withered and dying. Some, unable to contain their curiosity, reached out to test the edge of the rain curtain.
It was clearly only a step away, yet it remained as dry as ever.
Shocked!
incredible!
ecstasy!
envy!
Deeply confused!
Amidst the crowd, a multitude of emotions silently surged.
"It was obtained through Liu Laosi and his men's begging!"
Someone was speaking softly, their voices carried on the night breeze.
"Who can we ask? This rain only falls on their area!"
Someone echoed, their voice trembling.
"Look at those insects! They're dead! All of them are dead!"
"The Flood Dragon God! Has the Flood Dragon God of Shixi Village manifested himself?"
People crowded around Liu Laosi, Lu Cheng, and Yang Hu's vegetable garden, chatting amongst themselves. Gradually, some people guessed the truth. When they talked about the Dragon God, their tone was complex, a mixture of awe and fear, but mostly filled with longing.
The news came like thunder, carried by the night wind, and swept into Shanghe Village, waking up many more who were asleep.
Lu Liang woke up with a start, got dressed, and rushed to the vegetable garden.
The sky was bright.
The rain has stopped!
The three vegetable plots, nourished by the spiritual rain, were lush and green, a stark contrast to the dilapidated surroundings. On the damp soil, a layer of black, insect-like corpses was a shocking sight.
Liu Laosi, Yang Hu, and Lu Cheng were surrounded by more and more villagers who had rushed over after hearing the news. The three of them still had the flush of excitement on their faces, but their eyes had returned to their usual caution and unease.
Lu Liang's gaze swept across Liu Laosi, Yang Hu, and Lu Cheng's faces like an ice blade, then swept over the whispering, shifty-eyed villagers, finally fixing on the three lucky vegetable plots.
As the village head, his authority was gradually drenched and undermined by this strange and precise rain.
What's even more terrifying is that a force he couldn't understand or control had truly set foot on the land of Shanghe Village and cast an indelible shadow on the hearts of those ignorant people.
"What are you all doing here! Disperse!"
"It was just a coincidental night rain; some insects can't tolerate dampness, so it's not surprising that they died!"
"If you dare to spout nonsense again and spread lewd and heretical teachings, don't blame me for enforcing clan rules!"
Lu Liang took a deep breath, suppressing the shock, anger, and chill in his heart, and shouted sharply.
The group slowly left, but they all hesitated and lingered, their eyes constantly glancing at the vegetable patches. When they looked at Liu Laosi and the others, their gaze was no longer one of simple rejection, but rather a complex mix of awe, envy, and restless desire.
What did Lü Liang say?
Having witnessed firsthand the clear distinction between rain and vegetation, where insects die and vegetables thrive, there's little to be convinced about!
The sun rises.
Spiritual water.
The vapors evaporate from the vegetable leaves.
Lu Liang stood alone on the edge of the field, his face so gloomy it could wring water out of it. Looking at the land washed by the spiritual rain, and at the dead insect corpses on the soil, he realized for the first time that he was in deep trouble.
Shixi Village.
Lin Shi withdrew his senses. He had seen and heard everything that had just happened clearly. He stood up, left the side hall, and walked towards the Azure Wave Pool.
The pool reflected the rising sun, shimmering with golden light.
A morning breeze caressed the surface of the pool, creating ripples that seemed to suggest the shadow of a dragon stretching beneath the water.
Lin Shi smiled.
The spark has already fallen on the dry grassland; when the wind rises, its spread will be unstoppable.
This wind rises quietly from the cracks in people's hearts.
