Chapter 35 Diagnostic Test
Chapter 35 Diagnostic Test
On Monday morning, the sunlight pierced through the clouds and shone on the campus of Yucai No.1 Middle School.
As usual, the school gate was completely congested, with the sounds of people and cars creating a familiar morning prelude.
Song Huan, carrying a backpack, stood quietly under the sycamore tree next to the school gate, waiting for Xiao Yunqing.
The girl said she was going to the breakfast shop near the school gate to buy hot breakfast, but it took much longer than expected.
I waited patiently for another five minutes, but still didn't see that familiar figure.
Just as Song Huan lifted her foot to look for someone, she caught a glimpse of a girl with a high ponytail running towards her in the distance, carrying a breakfast bag. She was out of breath and her cheeks were flushed.
"Why didn't you wait for me!" Xiao Yunqing ran up to him, slightly out of breath, her tone carrying a hint of complaint.
Song Huan looked at her flushed cheeks and smiled helplessly: "Haven't I been standing here waiting for you?"
Xiao Yunqing glared at him, then handed him the warm carton of milk: "Here, it's hot, drink it quickly."
Song Huan took the milk, unscrewed it, and took a sip. The warm milk slid down her throat, spreading a sense of warmth.
Xiao Yunqing walked beside him, her ponytail swaying gently with each step, and reminded him, "Today is the placement test, and the seats are randomly assigned, so we won't be in the same exam room."
"I know, I saw the exam notice." Song Huan nodded calmly.
Which exam room are you in?
Class Six.
Xiao Yunqing frowned instantly, her lips drooping, revealing a hint of displeasure: "I'm in Class Two, which is quite far away."
She paused, then suddenly turned to look at Song Huan, her tone becoming more serious, "That Su Tao, do you remember him? The one from the top class, always showing off."
Song Huan nodded again. He couldn't forget such an arrogant guy, no matter how hard he tried.
"I specifically asked around, and he's also in the sixth-grade exam room, sharing a room with you." Xiao Yunqing frowned and instructed, "You have to do well on the exam today, and don't lose to that guy."
Seeing her serious expression, Song Huan took another sip of milk and teased her deliberately, "If I lose, will you turn around and become his girlfriend?"
"You dare!" Xiao Yunqing instantly bristled, raising her small fist to punch him in the chest, glaring at him angrily, "I'll beat you to death for talking nonsense!"
"Okay, okay, I'm not kidding anymore." Song Huan laughed and dodged to the side.
Seeing his grinning face, Xiao Yunqing angrily quickened her pace and walked forward.
The two walked to the teaching building and reached a fork in the road, where they each headed to their respective exam rooms.
Xiao Yunqing took two steps, then suddenly stopped and turned back to call out, "Song Huan!"
Song Huan turned around in response, and the sunlight fell precisely on the girl, casting a soft halo around her and making her face exceptionally bright.
"You must do well on the exam!" Xiao Yunqing said loudly, her eyes full of expectation.
Song Huan waved her hand and replied with a smile, "Don't worry, I won't just hand you over to someone else."
After saying that, he turned and walked towards the sixth-grade exam room at the end of the second floor.
Pushing open the door to Class 6, one finds many students already seated inside, with rustling sounds rising and falling.
Song Huan glanced around the classroom, went to her seat, and just as she took out her pencil case and put it on the table, someone walked in through the door.
Tall and thin, wearing black-rimmed glasses, holding a pen in his hand, and walking with a deliberate sense of superiority, it was Su Tao.
As soon as Su Tao entered the room, he saw Song Huan. He was stunned for a moment, then a contemptuous smile appeared on his lips as he walked straight toward Song Huan.
"What a coincidence, we're in the same exam room," Su Tao said, his tone full of disdain.
Song Huan glanced at him indifferently, not intending to pay him any attention.
Su Tao's tone was somewhat provocative: "Remember our agreement? Whoever gets the worst score on this placement test will have to withdraw from the competition with Xiao Yunqing."
Song Huan remained silent, secretly wondering what it was about Xiao Yunqing that made this bookworm, who only knew how to solve problems, so persistent and determined to hold on to her.
Su Tao didn't seem to mind his coldness and continued, "Today's first exam is math, and the last question is a big one. You'd better be mentally prepared."
Song Huan finally turned to look at him. Su Tao stood up, his smugness barely concealed: "I'm not trying to scare you, but that question was extremely difficult. I doubt many people from your regular class could solve it."
Looking at his smug expression, Song Huan coldly said, "So you came here specifically to give me psychological counseling?"
Su Tao's smile froze instantly, and his tone turned serious: "I'm just trying to be helpful, so you don't do too badly on the exam."
"Thanks for the reminder, but you should still worry about yourself."
Song Huan said calmly, "If you keep staring at me like that, don't get nervous during the exam and write your own name instead of mine."
Su Tao was taken aback at first, then sneered. The mockery in his smile was undisguised. He didn't say anything more, but the disdain in his heart was very clear.
[Ha, just putting on a brave face. Let's see if you'll still be smiling after the exams.]
Song Huan didn't take his provocation to heart at all, closed her eyes to rest, and waited for the exam to begin.
Not long after, the crisp exam bell rang, and the proctor walked into the classroom carrying a stack of exam papers. He cleared his throat and said, "Put everything unrelated to the exam on the side of the podium. Only leave your pen and ruler on the desk. Cheating is strictly prohibited."
A rustling sound of tidying up filled the classroom, and the test papers were quickly distributed to everyone.
Song Huan picked up her pen and answered calmly. The previous questions were all derived from basic knowledge points and were not difficult.
He answered the questions smoothly and quickly turned to the last page, facing the final big question.
It was an Olympiad math problem, far beyond the knowledge in the textbook. The problem was not long, but it was full of traps, with convoluted logic that made it extremely difficult to solve.
Song Huan calmed down and read the question three times before she could fully understand its meaning. She also instantly understood why Su Tao was so smug.
Xiao Yunqing had told him before that Su Tao's homeroom teacher was the same teacher who set the math exam questions.
This question was clearly prepared specifically for students in the advanced class; they must have practiced it beforehand.
Song Huan tried to solve the problem, but got stuck after writing down just two steps. He erased the answer and tried a different approach, but still couldn't make any progress.
Time passed by, and he frowned slightly. In his previous life, he had only average grades, but after being reborn, he made up for his shortcomings through hard work.
However, these advanced math problems really stumped him.
He glanced around the classroom; the students around him were either staring blankly with their pens in their mouths or scratching their heads, all stumped by the question.
Just then, a smug thought clearly reached my ears.
[Haha, heaven is on my side! No one else could solve this problem except for our Rocket Class.]
Song Huan subconsciously turned to look at Su Tao, who was writing furiously with his head down, his expression focused, and his problem-solving ideas kept coming out of his mind, word by word, clear and distinct.
[This is a problem-solving method specifically taught by our teacher, which fits this question perfectly. First, set up the unknown, transform the conditions of the problem, then substitute them into that competition formula. Yes, that's it, calculate step by step, and the final answer is... 1!]
Song Huan's previously stalled thinking suddenly became clear.
Song Huan took a deep breath, picked up her pen, and followed the steps Su Tao had mentally outlined to solve the problem, deducing and calculating them one by one.
The process was smooth and seamless; the complete solution was quickly written out, and finally, the answer, 1, was given.
After finishing the last stroke, Song Huan put down her pen, let out a long sigh, turned her head to look at Su Tao, who was still engrossed in checking his work, and a faint smile appeared on her lips.
Thanks, bro.
Shortly after, the bell rang again to signal the end of the exam. The proctor stood up and said, "Stop writing. Place your exam papers face up on the desk. Students, leave the classroom in an orderly manner."
The atmosphere in the classroom instantly relaxed, with sighs and complaints rising and falling, and some people huddled together to check their answers, all looking worried.
Song Huan packed up her pencil case and got up to leave. Just as she reached the classroom door, Su Tao called out from behind her.
"Wait a moment."
Song Huan turned around and saw Su Tao standing there, a triumphant smile on his face, like a fox that had stolen its prey, pressing closer step by step: "Did you solve the last math Olympiad problem?"
Song Huan looked at him quietly without speaking immediately.
Su Tao waited two seconds, and seeing that he didn't answer, his smile became even more smug. He reached out and patted Song Huan's shoulder, his tone full of sarcasm: "I knew you couldn't do it. That kind of difficulty is beyond the reach of people in your regular class. Only we in the rocket class have practiced it and have a chance to solve it."
Song Huan gently brushed Su Tao's hand away and said calmly, "The answer is 1."
One sentence instantly froze the smile on Su Tao's face.
He stood there, stunned, staring at Song Huan in disbelief, then burst into a sneer, his mockery even more pronounced: "Stop bluffing and putting on airs! Trying to fool people with a random answer? Who's going to believe you!"
The other test-takers who were packing up their things were also drawn by the commotion and turned to look.
Seeing the crowd watching, Su Tao became even more convinced that Song Huan was just putting on a brave face. He raised his voice and said, "I think you're just afraid of losing, afraid of fulfilling your promise, that's why you're being stubborn and making up stories about how you did it!"
Song Huan remained calm and composed, looking at Su Tao with indifferent eyes: "Believe it or not."
No sooner had she finished speaking than Xiao Yunqing rushed over from the other end of the corridor, clearly having just finished her exams and come to find Song Huan.
Seeing the crowd gathered and noticing Su Tao's arrogant demeanor, she quickly walked over to Song Huan, glared at Su Tao, and demanded, "Su Tao, what are you doing!"
Su Tao raised an eyebrow and pointed at Song Huan, "He said he solved the last big problem himself and even gave the answer. Isn't that blatant lying?"
Xiao Yunqing immediately stood in front of Song Huan, protecting him, her eyes resolute: "Song Huan said he did it, so he did it. What makes you so sure he can't do it? Just because you're in the top class, does that mean everyone else is inferior to you?"
Su Tao was momentarily speechless, but remained unconvinced: "There's no way he could have gotten that kind of question right! Make him explain what that question even means!"
"Explain? Why should I explain to you?"
Song Huan stepped forward, shielding Xiao Yunqing behind her, and looked at Su Tao coldly, "I'm too lazy to reason with you, you don't deserve to listen!"
Looking at Song Huan's composed demeanor, Su Tao felt a sudden surge of panic, but he maintained his composure and coldly snorted, "Fine, I'll wait for the results. Let's see how you try to argue then!"
After saying that, he turned and left dejectedly, his face full of resentment.
Watching Su Tao's retreating figure, Xiao Yunqing finally breathed a sigh of relief, then turned to look at Song Huan, her eyes sparkling.
But with a hint of worry: "You really solved the last problem? Was the answer really 1?"
Song Huan smiled and nodded, "Of course it's true. How could I possibly lose to him for you?"
Xiao Yunqing's face instantly turned red. She glared at him reproachfully, then turned her head away, but couldn't help smiling: "Don't be too smug. There's a Chinese exam this afternoon, and I'm sure I'll score higher than you!"
"Okay, I'll wait."
Looking at her shy appearance, Song Huan's eyes were full of tenderness. The two walked side by side in the corridor, the sunlight shining down, full of youthful exuberance and beauty.
